CRESWELL, Ore. - After an up-and-down day one, the Broncos shot the second lowest round of the day to finish third at the Duck Invitational. Boise State finished the day two-over just four shots behind host school Oregon. The Broncos closed the tournament at 11-over par (296-289-290=875).
"The guys dug deep again today and earned a nice team finish. Obviously, we didn't come wanting to finish third but on a week where we weren't firing on all cylinders, we really fought hard to compete in tough conditions," said head coach Dan Potter.
Sophomore Skyler Eubank fired off four birdies on the front-nine on route to a two-under 70. After starting off slowly with an opening-round 75 Eubank recovered to shoot three-under on his final two rounds finishing the tournament at even par (75-71-70=216), good enough for a tie for fifth. After a hot start junior Brian Humphreys began the day in third place, however, Humphreys struggled on the back nine and posted a final-round 77 to finish the tournament tied for 16th at four-over (72-71-77=220).
Freshman Hugo Townsend rallied from a tough start on Monday to fire four-under 68 Tuesday on his way to a tie for 24th at five-over (74-79-68=221). Fellow freshman Cameron Barzekoff put up consistent scores throughout and finished in sole possession of 37th at eight-over (75-73-76=224).
Junior Mason Schulze struggled in round one but recovered in the final two rounds and closed out the tournament at +13 (79-74-76=229) tied for 56th. Junior Michael Rizzo competed at the Duck Invitational as an individual and finished the tournament tied for 60th at 14-over (75-78-77=230).
"Hugo's round was huge for us today, Skyler had a great tournament, and everyone contributed a nice round or two. This week showed me a lot about our guys," said coach Potter.
The Broncos' next tournament will take them to Chandler, Ariz. for the Cowboy Classic hosted by the University of Wyoming, April 8-9.
