CHANDLER, Ariz. - Tuesday saw Boise State men's golf climb three spots into a tie for 10th with Southern Utah at the Wyoming Cowboy Classic. After struggling in round two the Broncos came back to shoot a one-under-par team score which ties as the third lowest team score of the day. That mark brought their overall score to four-over for the tournament (286-295-287=868). This finish marks the eighth top-10 finish for Boise State this season, which eclipses last seasons total with two tournaments still left to play.
"We were off this week. Hopefully, it was a good learning experience because the course setup exposed some deficiencies in our game. We also didn't show enough fight, which is not like us. I believe our team will bounce back. We've been tough all year and if we get back to being mentally tough we will be successful," said head coach Dan Potter.
Boise State was led the whole way by freshman Cameron Barzekoff who finished at two-under (69-72-73=214) after a one-over final round to close in a tie for 25th. This was Barzekoff's second top-25 finish in four events this season and stands as his lowest 54-hole score this season.
Three birdies and an eagle boosted sophomore Skyler Eubank into a tie for 32nd thanks to a two-under final round (72-74-70=216). His eagle on the seventh hole was his fifth of the season, making him the team leader in that category. Freshman Hugo Townsend closed three shots back of Eubank after a final round 74 where he finished tied for 51st at three-over (72-73-74=219).
Junior Mason Schulze recovered after a round two 76 to finish with a one-over 73 which brought him to six-over (73-76-73=222) for the tournament and tied for 65th. Fellow junior Brian Humphreys bounced back from a rough day one to shoot a one-under 71 on the final day to finish tied for 77th at eight-over.
Boise State will return home for 10 days before heading to Utah and it's final tournament before the Mountain West Championships. The Broncos will head to Provo for the BYU Cougar Classic April, 19-20.
