No. 11 Broncos Fall to No. 16 Cougars on Senior Night

The No. 11 Boise State gymnastics team suffered its first conference loss in a 197.000-196.325 setback at the hands of No. 16 BYU. The Cougars (8-4, 3-2 MRGC) had a plethora of season-bests and recorded their best team score since 2004.
Despite the loss, the Broncos (11-2, 5-1 MRGC) had a special night as they honored their seniors who competed in Taco Bell Arena for the final time in their career.
Tatum Bruden set a career high of 9.875 with a solid stick on vault to lead the Broncos and take second place in the event. Courtney McGregor and Sarah Means followed with a pair of 9.850s. BYU's Shannon Evans took the event title with a 9.900.
Boise State led after the first rotation by a narrow .025 as its headed to bars. Alexis Stokes continued her impressive freshman bars campaign and took the event title with a 9.925, matching her career high. Courtney McGregor and Gabby Bouza both recorded 9.850s to take third place, but the Cougars gained the lead at the halfway mark after an impressive vault lineup, with Evans recording a 9.900 to round out the rotation. The Cougars took a .475 lead into the third rotation after the Broncos had a couple uncharacteristic slip-ups on bars.
Amado and Means were at the helm for Boise state on beam with a couple 9.875s to share second place in the event. Alex Esmerian finished with a 9.850 and McGregor recorded a 9.825. The Broncos totaled a solid 49.225 as a team on beam to BYU's 49.400 on floor.
The Cougars maintained a .650 lead going into the final rotation as the Broncos headed to floor, where they began to chip away at BYU's lead. McGregor led the team with a 9.900 and Esmerian was next with a 9.875 in her final home routine of her career. Means was close behind with a 9.850, but it wasn't enough as BYU was able to put together a total score of 49.275 in rotation four on beam.
Evans took first in the all-around for BYU with an impressive 39.575 while McGregor finished with a 39.425 for second place.
The Broncos will head to Lincoln, Neb., Saturday, March 16 for a quad-meet at No. 18 Nebraska with No. 10 Kentucky and Illinois State.
