The Boise State women's tennis team fell to Utah State 4-3 in the first round of the Mountain West Women's Tennis Championship on Wednesday in San Diego.

SAN DIEGO, Calif. (4/24/19) – The Boise State women's tennis team collected three singles victories, but their season was ultimately ended by seventh-seeded Utah State after losing 4-3 in the first round of the Mountain West Women's Tennis Championship on Wednesday in San Diego.

The
10th-seeded Broncos took the first doubles match of the day after the All-MW doubles tandem of Lilian Poling and Wilhelmina Palmer defeated Hannah Jones and Alexandra Taylor 6-1 at the No. 1 spot. The Aggies, however, would go on to win on court three and take a 7-6(6) tiebreaker on court two to steal the doubles point from the Broncos.

In singles, freshman Emily Strande took care of business at the No. 3 position with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Annaliese County to even the match at one apiece. After the Aggies reclaimed the overall lead with a win on court six, Poling — who was named to All-MW honors in singles earlier in the day — defeated the Aggies' Hannah Jones in a three-set match 2-6, 6-0, 7-5 at the No. 2 slot to bring the score to another tie at 2-2.

Utah State was again able to break the tie with a tough win on court four as the Aggies moved into position to clinch the match. With her team's season on the line, junior Wiktoria Nosek delivered a stellar 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 win over Gabrielle Dekkers on court five to tie the score 3-3 and keep the Broncos' hopes alive.

All attention then turned to court one, where in three sets the Aggies' Alexandra Pisareva came out on top over Palmer 2-6, 6-2, 6-4  in a battle between two All-MW singles players to end the Broncos' season in heartbreaking fashion.

The Broncos finish the year with a 7-12 overall mark, with all seven wins coming at home. The Broncos will look forward to next season as they will return a wealth of talent after not having any seniors on roster this year.
