Boise State Finishes Fourth at Regional Final

Meet Results - Regional Final
CORVALLIS, Ore. – Boise State battled the whole way in finishing fourth at the Corvallis Regional with a 196.075 Saturday night at Gill Coliseum. The Broncos remained locked in for the entire meet, closing out with their best event score of the night on vault with a 49.125 in the fourth and final rotation.
Just qualifying to the regional final assures a top-16 national finish for the Blue and Orange, giving them their fourth-straight season with a top-16 finish. In total, the Broncos have logged six top-16 finishes in the national rankings under the direction of co-head coaches Neil Resnick and Tina Bird.
"I felt like it was an amazing finish to the season," Resnick said after the meet. "That was probably the best vault round we've had all year. We asked them to finish strong, and they did just that. Great season and great finish on vault, and now we look ahead to next year."
The Broncos started on uneven bars and began the night with a solid 49.000. Gabriella Bouza recorded a 9.8 in the No. 1 spot and Sarah Means followed with a 9.775. Alexis Stokes posted a team-high 9.85 in the third position, giving her seventh uneven bars score of 9.85 or higher on the season. Courtney McGregor went for a 9.8 and Maddi Nilson closed out the event with a 9.775.
The Blue and Orange then went to balance beam in the second rotation and fought hard for a 49.050. Bouza and Isabella Amado each garnered 9.8s in the first and second spots. After a fall came in the third position, the final three Broncos stepped up in a big way in hitting the last three routines. Alex Esmerian picked up a 9.825, Means secured a 9.8 and Hope Masiado was clutch for the second-straight day in the anchor spot with a 9.825 to avoid having to count the fall.
Floor saw Boise State go for a 48.900 in the third rotation. Nilson started with a 9.725 while McGregor and Means each put up 9.8s. Tatum Bruden went for a 9.775 in the fifth spot and Esmerian closed things out well with a 9.8.
The Broncos saved their best for last, as the 49.125 on the final apparatus was the team's second-highest vault score of the season. Boise State's counting scores started with Samantha Smith (9.75) before Bouza and Bruden raised the bar with 9.85s. McGregor vaulted her way to a 9.825 in the No. 5 spot and Means wrapped up the evening with a 9.85. Means, Bruden and McGregor all stuck their vaults, giving the team its highest event score of the night.
The meet concludes the 2019 season for the Blue and Orange. As of tonight, no Broncos will compete at nationals as individuals.
