LAS VEGAS - A cold fourth quarter bit the Broncos again in Mountain West play, as Boise State scored just three points over the final 8:33 Wednesday, and UNLV's Latecia Smith made a driving layup with 6.1 seconds left to beat the Broncos, 66-65, in Las Vegas.

After shooting 59.2 percent over the opening 20 minutes and building a 39-29 lead, the Broncos (11-6, 3-2 MW) hit a wall in the second half, going just 6-for-29 including one field goal over the last eight-and-a-half minutes. On the other end, UNLV (7-8, 3-2 MW) made six of its last eight attempts down the stretch, capped by Smith's layup. Riley Lupfer, who made four 3-pointers in the first half, saw her final attempt at the buzzer go off-target to close the contest.

"We didn't perform or execute down the stretch of the game. That's been the thing we have done well through the years and have not done that in our last two losses, especially in the fourth quarter," said Boise State head coach Gordy Presnell.

Boise State led by 11 at 62-51 after A'Shanti Coleman's baseline jumper with 8:33 to go, then went 1-for-10 the rest of the way. The Broncos missed their next seven attempts until Mallory McGwire's 3-pointer snapped an 11-0 UNLV run and broke a 62-62 tie to put Boise State up three. But Smith, who scored eight of her 13 points in the final frame, would close the game with buckets on two-straight Lady Rebel possessions to steal the win.

Foul trouble also caught up to Boise State. Coleman fouled out with 7:49 to play, and the Broncos hit the five-foul limit with 6:30 on the clock, putting UNLV in the bonus for the rest of the game.

Lupfer and Rachel Bowers led the Broncos with 14 points apiece Wednesday, with Bowers going 6-for-8 from the field. Jade Loville scored 12 points off the bench, while Jayde Christopher passed out 11 assists to go with seven rebounds.

"Rachel and Jade were outstanding today. Jade hit big shots, got us an early lead, and Rachel had a great game as well. It's something to build around for the future," Presnell said.

Rodjanae Wade led the Lady Rebels with a 21-point, 14-rebound double-double, also going 7-for-9 from the line.

Boise State had used blazing runs at the end of both the first and second quarters to build a 10-point halftime lead, and looked poised to pull away from the Lady Rebels after McGwire opened the third quarter with a bucket to get the led to 12 at 41-29.

UNLV cut an eight-point Bronco lead down to two at 29-27 with 3:03 to go in the opening half before Lupfer, Loville, and Christopher took over. Loville, who went 5-for-8 from the field Wednesday, scored on consecutive Bronco possessions to get Boise State up 33-29, then Lupfer closed the half with a pair of triples. All four buckets were assisted by Christopher, who had nine by halftime.

It followed a first quarter push in which the Broncos broke a 7-7 tie with 3:57 on the clock. Four points from Loville and a triple from Lupfer fueled a 13-6 Bronco finish to the frame.
