ABOUT THE AGGIES:Â Utah State is 18-7, with a 7-5 record in Mountain West play. The Aggies have won five of their last seven, with the losses coming at the hands of Boise State and undefeated San Diego State. Reigning Mountain West Player of the Year Sam Merrill leads the team at 17.9 points and 3.9 assists per game. Last year's MW Freshman of the Year, Neemias Queta, has been limited to 13 games this season but is averaging 11.6 points and 6.4 rebounds per outing and has played in each of the last nine games.
SERIES HISTORY:Â Utah State leads the all-time series 33-16. The Broncos have won seven of the last 10 meetings, including a historic come-from-behind 88-83 overtime victory Jan. 18, in Boise. The Broncos are 3-19 all-time on the road in the series, winning in Logan for the first time in 2015.
HOT STREAK:Â Boise State is riding a five-game win streak, all coming in conference play, to vault into second place in the league standings at 8-4 and 16-8 overall. The last time the Broncos won five consecutive Mountain West games was during the 2014-15 season, the year Boise State won the regular-season league title. That year, the Broncos posted conference win streaks of eight and six, winning 14 of their final 15 league games to claim the title.
ALSTON A FINALIST FOR NATIONAL AWARD: Boise State redshirt junior Derrick Alston, Jr. was named one of 10 finalists for the 2020 Julius Erving Small Forward of the Year Award, the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame announced Wednesday. The annual honor is in its sixth year and recognizes the top small forwards in Division I men's college basketball.
PASSING JIMMER: Justinian Jessup is the all-time three-point leader in Mountain West and Boise State history, entering the game with 298 career triples. Jessup broke the MW record Feb. 4, at Wyoming. The record was previously held by BYU's Jimmer Fredette (2007-11). With two more triples, Jessup will become the first player in Mountain West history to reach 300.
MIRACLE AT EXTRAMILE: Boise State rallied for a thrilling overtime victory in its last game against Utah State, Jan. 18. The Aggies took an 18-point lead (66-48) with 4:10 remaining in regulation and had possession. The Broncos got a stop and RJ Williams sank a pair of free throws with 3:37 to play. Those free throws started a 27-9 run, including 19 points from freshman RayJ Dennis to close the period and tie the game. Utah State led 75-70 with 8.9 seconds left before Dennis stormed up the floor and made his fourth three-pointer of the spurt. Justinian Jessup stole the ensuing inbound pass and made a layup to tie the game with 1.9 seconds left and force overtime. The Broncos never led in regulation, but never trailed in the extra period, winning 88-83.
