
Noneman, Zacest Named Top Ten Scholars

BOISE, Idaho – Graduating Boise State student-athletes Kendra Noneman (women's track and field) and Georgia Zacest (women's swimming and diving) are among 10 Boise State University seniors honored with the Top Ten Scholar Award, presented by the Boise State Alumni Association and Boise State Honors College. The award, one of the highest honors granted to a Boise State undergraduate student, recognizes exceptional academic success.
To be considered for a Top Ten Scholar Award, students must have at least a 3.8 grade-point average and be nominated by their respective deans. Each student is then rigorously reviewed based on academic breadth of coursework, research, creative works and publications, presentations at professional meetings or conferences and service to the community and campus.
Noneman will earn her degree in materials science and engineering and plans to pursue a doctoral degree in neural computation and machine learning at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh. She chose Eric Jankowski, PhD, as her honored faculty member. Jankowski is an assistant professor in the Micron School of Materials Science and Engineering.
A four-year letterwinner for the Broncos in throwing events, Noneman made her biggest mark during the 2019 outdoor season in the hammer throw. The Eagle, Idaho, native finished fourth at the Mountain West Championships and qualified for the NCAA West Preliminary Round. She also scored at the conference championships as a sophomore. During indoor competition, Noneman placed in the top 15 at the Mountain West Championships in the weight throw each of her four seasons, including seventh-place finishes each of the last two years. She plans to continue her athletic career by competing in Olympic weightlifting competitions.
Zacest is set to earn her degree in history and English literature. She will begin law school in the fall, with the intention of pursuing a legal career focused on expanding social justice through public interest and human rights law. Zacest chose Dr. Shelton Woods as her honored faculty member. Woods is the Associate Dean of the Honors College and Department of History.
In the pool, Zacest was a member of two Mountain West Conference championship teams in 2017 and 2018. She swam freestyle, backstroke and breaststroke, specializing in the sprint freestyle events. A native of Auckland, New Zealand, Zacest competed at the 2016 New Zealand Olympic Trials, earning top-25 finishes in four events. She was a three-time Academic All-Mountain West selection and Mountain West Scholar-Athlete.
Since 2010, 11 Boise State student-athletes have earned the prestigious award, including at least one in each of the last seven years. Noneman and Zacest join Samantha Headley (2019; beach volleyball), Anna McDonald (2018; women's track and field and cross country), Jenni Domanowski (2017; women's swimming and diving), Oceane Pelloille (2017; women's golf), Sam Wicks (2017; women's swimming and diving), Lacie Rasley (2016; women's track and field), Kate Jette (2015; women's track and field), Lauren Lucas (2014; women's track and field), Carly Gerard (2012; women's track and field) and Bianca Jochimsen (2010; women's tennis).
This year the annual Top Ten Scholars Award Ceremony will be held virtually. It will take place Thursday, May 7, at 4:30 p.m. Mountain Time on Facebook, YouTube and Instagram. Register for the event to receive more information on how to participate.
