BOISE, Idaho – Boise State student-athletes overcame a challenging spring semester to post an all-department grade-point average of 3.46, with 89 Broncos posting a 4.0 GPA for the term.
"I am overwhelmed with pride from seeing how our student-athletes attacked this semester," said Executive Director of Athletics Curt Apsey. "To achieve this type of success while stretched across the globe, learning remotely and facing varying levels of technological limitations says a lot about the character and dedication our students possess. I also want to acknowledge the example set by our coaches and staff and commend them for continuing to prioritize academics while adapting to our new environment."
Gymnastics led the way with a 3.96 team GPA, including 12 student-athletes with a 4.0. The squad has paced the department for 12 consecutive semesters. Women's tennis followed closely behind with a 3.92, as every member of the team recorded at least a 3.7.
Every Boise State women's program posted at least a 3.5 team GPA. Men's track and field and cross country (3.52) was the top-performing men's program.
Due to the coronavirus pandemic and the abrupt switch to remote instruction, Boise State University permitted all students the option to invoke pass/fail grading for their spring semester courses. Students who achieved a C-minus or better had the option to change the letter grade to a pass.
Utilizing the letter grades posted before the pass/fail option was applied, Boise State football set a program record with a 3.10 term GPA. The final grades saw 16 football student-athletes achieve a 4.0 and 72 percent of the team reach at least a 3.0.
