Perry's Run Ends In Semis

PORTLAND, Ore. -Â Boise State's Lexi Perry had her outstanding run at the Oregon Women's Amateur Championship come to an end in Friday evening's semifinal against Oregon State's Ellie Slama. The match was all-square through 18 holes before Slama captured the first sudden-death hole at the Columbia Edgewater Country Club.
Perry still goes home having earned medalist honors at the event after capturing the two-round stroke-play portion Monday-Tuesday, along with match-play wins over all-conference collegiate golfers from the West Coast Conference and SEC.
Friday's semifinal was a grueling match which featured five lead changes and five ties between golfers who had each already played a quarterfinal match from late morning to early afternoon.
Slama captured the opening hole of the semifinal, before Perry squared it on No. 5. Each golfer took a lead before Slama took No. 9 to pull even at the turn.
After Slama got back in front at No. 11, Perry leapfrogged the 2019 All-Pac-12 first-teamer with back-to-back holes on 14 and 15. But Slama would even it back up on the par-3 16, and the golfers would remain square through 17 and 18.
Earlier in the day, Perry took down Ole Miss' Kennedy Swann, a 2020 All-SEC Second Team selection. Perry jumped out to a 3-up lead after the opening three holes, but Swann slowly chipped away, getting to within one by the turn, tying it up at No. 12, and taking the lead at No. 14.
But Perry, as she'd done all during match play, came up clutch on the final holes. A par on the par-3 16th brought the match all-square, and a birdie on No. 17 put her back in front. Each golfer would par No. 18, giving Perry the 1-up victory.
