Broncos Drop Series Opener in Fresno

FRESNO, Calif. – Hanna Cavinder scored a game-high 19 points to lead Fresno State to a 92-57 victory over visiting Boise State, Thursday night.
With the win, the Bulldogs (7-5, 5-2 Mountain West) pulled into a three-way tie for second place in the conference standings with the Broncos (8-2, 5-2 MW) and idle Colorado State. New Mexico (3-1 MW) leads the circuit with a.750 winning percentage compared to the trio's .714.
Freshman Alexis Mark led Boise State with 14 points and seven rebounds on 7 of 8 shooting from the floor.
The Broncos jumped out to a 6-2 lead on a pair of buckets by Mark and a basket by Rachel Bowers, who finished with 10 points. The Bulldogs responded with an 11-0 run to take a 13-6 lead they never relinquished.
Boise State trailed by as many as 13 in the first quarter, but closed to within six on two occasions in the second quarter. Mark scored the Broncos' final eight points of the first half and the deficit was 36-29 at intermission.
The Bulldogs had a monster third quarter outscoring the Broncos 33-12 to lead 69-41 with 10 minutes to play.
Led by Mark, Boise State's nine freshmen tallied 44 points. The Broncos and Bulldogs meet again Saturday at 3 p.m. Mountain/2 p.m. Pacific.
