PULLMAN, Wash. – Elodie Lalotte tied her career high with 16 points in Boise State's 62-55 loss at Washington State at Friel Court, Sunday.
The setback snapped a two-game winning streak for the Broncos (3-6) while the Cougars improved to 8-1.
The Broncos trailed 58-51 with 3:38 remaining. Mary Kay Naro and Lalotte each made a field goal to pull Boise State within 58-55 with 1:55 to play. The Broncos had a pair of chances to get closer, but back-to-back turnovers ended the comeback threat.
"We had some chances," Gordy Presnell said. "We have been steadily improving and that will help us going forward."
Lalotte scored 10 points in the first quarter, including all eight during an 8-0 run to put the Broncos on top 12-6 at the 4:59 mark. A pair of 3-pointers by Anna Ostlie extended the lead to 18-11 and Boise State led 24-16 after the opening period. Ostlie finished with 12 points, all in the first half.
A jumper by Rachel Bowers on the first possession of the second quarter pushed the lead to 26-16 before Washington State went on a 13-2 run to take a 29-28 lead with 3:28 left in the half.
Boise State responded with a 10-0 run to lead 38-29 at the break. Ostlie knocked down a pair of 3-pointers and Bowers and Dominique Leonidas each chipped in a basket.
The Cougars outscored the Broncos 22-9 in the third quarter and led 51-47 entering the fourth quarter.
The Broncos conclude the nonconference road portion of their schedule with a game against Pepperdine, Saturday, Dec. 18 at 2 p.m. MT/1 p.m. PT.
