PALM DESERT, Calif. – The Boise State women's golf team captured the team championship at the Mountain Classic, a match play event co-hosted by the Broncos and Wyoming, Tuesday. The Broncos scored 11.0 team points over two days, edging the second-place Cowgirls, who finished with 9.5 points.

The victory is the Broncos' first since capturing the team title at the Ptarmigan Ram Classic, Sept. 17-19, 2018.

"After going so long between last season getting canceled and starting this year, I'm incredibly proud of this team for how they've played these first two tournaments," head coach Nicole Bird said. "Today, we were behind early in a few matches, but we were able to come back and win our first tournament in more than two years. This is a different format than what we typically play, but being able to grind and pull out some great wins shows what I think this team could be capable of this year."

After finishing runner-up at last week's Valley Invitational, Boise State won the Mountain Classic by going 2-0-1 in match play. The Broncos defeated Utah Valley (3.5-2.5) Monday morning, and Southern Utah (4.5-1.5) on Tuesday. Boise State halved its match against Wyoming (3.0-3.0), Monday afternoon.

Individually, junior Lexi Perry and freshman Elli Gordon each went a perfect 3-0, earning 3.0 points apiece toward the team score.

Freshman Emma Yang and sophomore Cora Mickelsen each also contributed 2.0 points, while junior Nicole Suppelsa added a point.

The Broncos will continue their season at the Gunrock Invitational in Sacramento, Calif., March 1-2.
