Broncos Head to Washington for Kalispel Invitational

WHAT'S NEXT: Boise State women's golf continues competition with its second tournament, September 21-22, playing in the Kalispel Invitational. Hosted at the Kalispel Golf and Country Club in Spokane, Washington, the tournament will feature two rounds on Monday and the final round on Tuesday.
THE FIELD: Boise State, Eastern Washington (host), Cal State Bakersfield, Fresno State, Gonzaga, Grand Canyon, Idaho, Murray State, Portland State, Sacramento State, San Francisco, UC Riverside, Utah Tech, Utah Valley.
LAST TIME OUT: The Broncos finished in eighth-place at the Badger Invitational in Madison, Wisconsin, carding a team score of 892 (+28). Leia Chung posted a team-best score of 219 (+3), tying for 14th, while Teal Matsueda added a 222 (+6) and tied for 24th. Boise State recorded 178 pars as a team, tying for second in the field. Chung has 21 career top-25 finishes, tying for third in school history. Matuseda has 17 career top-25 finishes, tying for ninth in school history.
RISE OF CHUNG: Leia Chung returns after an unparalleled 2025-26 season. Chung was an NCAA Regional Individual qualifier and Mountain West Champion who accumulated four top-10 finishes, including three tournament titles. The Wahiawa, Hawaii native was the recipient of the Kim Moore Spirit Award, presented to an athlete who exemplifies a great spirit toward the game of golf. Chung also holds the school's lowest career scoring average (72.88) and single-season scoring average (72.10 in 2023-24).
YEAR SIX AT THE HELM: Head Coach Kailin Downs is in her sixth season leading the Broncos. Since Downs took over in 2021, the Broncos have notched four of the top five single-season scoring averages in program history, including a program-record 293.34 in 2023-24. Last season, Downs guided the Broncos to school records for single-round score (276, -12) and 36-hole score (561, -15) at the New Mexico State Golf Iconic Classic.
TEEING OFF A NEW CHAPTER: Alice Koontz will make her debut as a Bronco at the Kalispel Invitational. The Freshman from Del Mar, California was a four-time scholar athlete and led Torrey Pines HS to the 2024 CIF state title. She earned a pair of top-10 AJGA finishes in 2024, including a fourth-place finish at the Toyota Tour Cup and another fourth-place finish at the AJGA Bass Pro Shops Championship in 2025. Koontz was also a 2026 U.S. National Development Program Grant Athlete.
IN THE RECORD BOOK: Two Broncos, Teal Matsueda and Jillian Hui are significantly featured in the Boise State record book. Matsueda holds the second-highest career scoring average with a 73.78 and Hui follows in seventh with a 75.62. Hui is tied for third for individual low round, shooting a 66 (-6) on Oct. 21, 2024 at the Boulder Creek Invitational, while Matsueda is tied for sixth, shooting a 67 (-5) on Oct. 13, 2025 at the NMSU Golf Iconic Classic.
