PALM DESERT, Calif. – Four Broncos placed in the top 30 and Boise State opened its 2021 men's golf season in a tie for fourth at the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate.

The Broncos shot 2-under as a team Sunday to close the 54-hole event at 289-287-286—862 (-2).

Georgia Tech, ranked 39th nationally, won the tournament at 16-under. Charlotte was the runner-up at 9-under. San Diego, No. 49 in the nation, was 6-under. Oregon tied the Broncos at 2-under.

Boise State was the top Mountain West school in the 20-team field, besting Air Force, Colorado State, Fresno State and Wyoming. The Broncos also placed ahead of No. 20 Southern Utah and Pac-12 foes Colorado and UCLA.

"It was a tough golf course with just enough scary shots," Bronco head coach Dan Potter said. "We have not competed in a long time and our guys have not played outside for a week and a half. It is encouraging to know we have a deep lineup and it was exciting to see everybody contribute. I think everybody goes away feeling like we have our best golf ahead of us."

Hugo Townsend made six birdies in the final round, including three in his last-four holes. He shot an even par 72, Sunday and placed in a tie for 11th at 2-under.

Skyler Eubank, Brian Humphreys and Joe Neuheisel each tied for 26th at 2-over. Humphreys converted seven birdie putts, Sunday and carded a 3-under 69 to move up the leaderboard.

Neuheisel fired a 4-under 68 in Saturday's second round and Eubank opened his tournament with a 3-under 69, Friday.

Boise State has a week off before traveling to Bandon, Ore., for the Bandon Dunes Championship, March 7-9.
