PINK MEET
The Broncos will host their annual Pink Meet, Saturday. Boise State will hold a moment of silence prior to the National Anthem, honoring those that have been affected by cancer.
FANS!
Boise State will welcome up to 900 fans at ExtraMile Arena for Saturday's meet, the Broncos' first home competition with a crowd since March 5, 2020, when the Broncos also hosted Southern Utah in a 196.925-195.300 victory.
Tickets are $6, and can be purchased at BroncoSports.com/tickets.
Patrons will receive free parking in the West Stadium Lot.
As part of several safety precautions in place, fans will have to clear a temperature and health screening prior to entry. Masks will be required for all attendees at all times, and portable hand sanitization stands will be located at each entry point and throughout ExtraMile Arena. Concessions will not be permitted at this time.
Additionally, seating will be preestablished, and patrons are solely permitted to sit in the seats in which they have been assigned to assure attendees are adhering to proper physical distancing measures. There will be no seating at the floor level of ExtraMile Arena, as Boise State adheres to bubble requirements that distance fans from competitors set forth by both the Mountain West and NCAA.
IN THE RANKINGS
Boise State checked in at No. 20 in this week's edition of Road to Nationals, the program's sixth-consecutive week in the top 25. The Broncos are led by their bars line-up, which ranks seventh nationally (49.246). Boise State is also in the top 25 on both beam (T-23rd; 48.846) and vault (25th; 48.900), and ranks 36th on floor (48.858).
Individually, senior Emily Muhlenhaupt ranks third nationally on bars (9.920), and also leads the Broncos on beam (35th; 9.855). Freshman Courtney Blackson leads the Broncos on both vault (120th; 9.790) and floor (72nd; 9.844).
STACKING TOP 25 WINS
Boise State has four wins over top-25 opponents this season, earning victories over No. 13 Oregon State (Jan. 15) and No. 14 BYU (Jan. 23), and a pair of wins over Utah State – at home, Feb. 6 (No. 23) and on the road, Feb. 13 (No. 21.
WEEKLY HONORS
Senior Emily Muhlenhaupt has already registered three MRGC Bars Specialist of the Week honors in 2021, while redshirt senior Maddi Nilson has a pair of MRGC Floor Specialist of the Week accolades thus far this season.
ROAD TO 10.0
Senior Emily Muhlenhaupt became the third gymnast in Boise State history to record a 9.975 on bars, Feb. 1, 2019. She did it again twice during the 2020 season, and has one such score in 2021. Additionally, she scored a 9.950 in each of her first two routines this season. If she is able to notch a 10.0, it will be the first such score on bars in school history, and just the fifth on any apparatus all-time. Most recently, Ciera Perkins registered a 10.0 on vault, Jan. 30, 2015. It was the third perfect vault in school history, a mark also achieved by Julie Wagner (March 20, 1993) and Leslie Mott (March 23, 1996). On beam, Marie Lucas registered a 10.0, Feb. 27, 2002.
CONFERENCE TITLES/REGIONALS
The Broncos captured their fifth-consecutive Mountain Rim Gymnastics Conference title in 2019, but were unable to defend the championship following the cancellation of the year due to the COVID-19 pandemic prior to the conclusion of the regular season. The five-straight titles were the longest by a Boise State program since the football team also won five-straight in the Western Athletic Conference from 2002-06. The only program with a longer streak in Boise State history was the wrestling team, which won seven-straight Big Sky Conference Championships from 1974-80. Boise State also made 12-consecutive NCAA Regional Championship appearances before this past season, which was canceled due to COVID-19 prior to the conclusion of the regular season.
WHAT'S NEXT?
Boise State has added a tri-meet to its 2021 schedule, and will travel to Seattle next week to compete against Washington and Stanford, March 7 (Sunday). The meet with the Huskies and Cardinal is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. MT.
