Hugo Townsend Wins Duck Invitational

3/23/2021 5:14:00 PM | Men's Golf

EUGENE, Ore. – Hugo Townsend captured his first-career medalist honor with a 6-under at the Duck Invitational held March 22-23.

Townsend's effort led Boise State men's golf to a third-place finish (+16). The Broncos have posted a top five in each of their three tournaments this season.

The Boden, Sweden native shot 71-66, Monday to sit in a tie for the lead at 5-under with Oregon State's Spencer Tibbits entering Tuesday's final round.

Townsend got off to a good start, Tuesday, making three birdies over his first 10 holes before bogeys on 11 and 12 dropped him back to 5-under.

After Washington's Noah Woolsey made a birdie on 13, Townsend's lead was down to one stroke. He made par on each of his next three holes before a birdie on 17 secured the win. He finished 71-66-70-207.

"Monday's afternoon round was special," Bronco head coach Dan Potter said. "There were really tough pins, windy conditions, rain off and on and Hugo put on a clinic. Today, with a chance to win, playing against good players, he was awesome."

Skyler Eubank added a fifth-place finish for Boise State at 1-over (73-70-71). Joe Neuheisel tied for 35th at 12-over while Josh Gliege was tied for 40th at 14-over and Brian Humphreys was tied for 47th at 15-over.

"It was a sneaky top five for Skyler on a course that is narrow and requires precision," Potter said. "He showed he can be a lot more versatile. As a team, this is who we are capable of being for sure. We have good players with a deep lineup and have the horse power to do well each week. The best part is we can still play better."

Oregon State won the tournament at 8-over followed by Oregon (+12) and Boise State. Washington (+24) and Santa Clara (+28) rounded out the top five in the 15-team field.

Boise State has finished ahead of at least two Pac-12 schools in each tournament this season and has bested all-five Mountain West schools, including Fresno State twice, it has competed against in 2021.
