Montana State handed the Broncos their first loss of season by a 3-1 score.
BOISE, Idaho - Lauren Ohlinger led the Broncos with a team-high 14 kills in a 3-1 loss to the Montana State Bobcats (2-1) Saturday afternoon to close out the Boise State Invitational. Ohlinger and Chey Jones were both named to the all-tournament team for their efforts in helping the Broncos to a 2-1 record to open the season. Â
Boise State started the match slow and struggled to get any momentum going for most of the contest. The Broncos had difficulty offensively as they hit .104 percent while the Bobcats countered at .279 percent and tallied 57 kills to Boise State's 38.
Down two sets, the Blue and Orange attempted to rally claiming the third set by five points. Unfortunately, MSU came out strong in the fourth and pulled away to eventually claim the match 25-16, 25-22, 20-25, 25-14.Â
Ohlinger led the team with 14 kills while hitting .231. In addition, she added a team and season-high four service aces — tying her career high — eight digs and one block to finish with a team-best 18.5 points.
Kayly Pau followed with 10 kills, while Chey Jones — playing setter — added six kills, a team-high 26 assists, three digs and two blocks.Â
Boise State will be back in action next weekend when they begin the first of two-straight road trips as they travel to Irvine, Calif., for the UC Irvine/Adidas Invitational featuring UCI, Southern Utah and George Mason.
