Townsend Claims High Jump Gold

TOKYO – Former Boise State track and field star Roderick Townsend topped the podium in the men's high jump – T46/47 final at the 2020 Tokyo Paralympic Games, Sunday.
Townsend claimed gold in world record fashion, jumping 2.15-meters to break his own world record mark of 2.14m which he set in 2019.
The Paralympian passed on the first six heights until he cleared his first mark of 2.02m, clearing the following four heights to secure the overall victory. Fellow Team USA member Dallas Wise tied with India's Kumar Nishad for silver (2.06m).
The Stockton Calif., native first garnered the title of Paralympian at the 2016 Paralympics in Rio De Janeiro, earning two gold medals in the high jump and the long jump. He also competed in the 100m, notching a fifth-place finish.
Townsend will conclude his 2020 Tokyo Paralympics when he competes in the long jump Mon., Aug. 30 at 6:30 p.m. MT.
