HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. – Aris Vetter and Abbie Wolf finished as runner-ups in the A Gold Division at the Relentless Collegiate Challenge, Sunday.

After going undefeated in pool play on Saturday, the duo won back-to-back three-set matches to advance to the championship. The pair lost a close match to Haley Carrington and Skylar Johnson (Long Beach State), falling 24-22, 21-18.

Joey Benson and Emilia Guerra-Acuña also went undefeated in pool play on Saturday, earning a bye to the quarterfinals in the AA Gold Division bracket. After winning a tight match against a Concordia pair, the Broncos fell to Olivia Bakos and Jenna Johnson (USC) in the semifinals.

Between the three pairs that made the trip to Huntington Beach, the Sandy Broncos combined to go 10-6.

Quotables

"Joey and Emilia were solid from the start. They competed all the way through their matches. They battled probably the toughest competition they've seen and will see at the No. 4 spot. It was the most consistent and most controlled they've played in a long time. They played with composure throughout the whole weekend." – assistant coach Alex Venardos

"Abbie and Aris had the most grueling schedule in terms of length of matches. They got their money's worth down here. They held their own down the stretch in some tight matches. That's not easy. They stood by each other the whole time and their composure really showed in those situations." - Vernardos

"We've seen a lot of growth so far in a short amount of time. Having so many freshmen this year was a perfect opportunity for us to have a fall season. The pace of the game is so much faster at the college level. A lot of the freshmen that first weekend in Seattle were blitzed on the court. Not by the other team necessarily, but by the pace. I saw a lot of change in the past month. We were playing at our own pace this weekend top to bottom which was great to see." - Vernardos

What's Next
The Broncos will conclude its fall season next weekend with two separate competitions. Rorianna Chartier and Sierra Land will travel to Huntsville, Ala. for the AVCA National Pairs Championship. The remainder of the team will compete in the Lopes Invitational in Phoenix, Ariz.
