BOISE, Idaho – Boise State beach volleyball student-athlete Allyson Alden raised a total of $8,740 as part of her 'Block Party' fundraiser.
The campaign, launched prior to the 2026 season, asked donors to pledge a set dollar amount for every ace or block that the sixth-year senior tallied during the year. For the 2026 season, Alden recorded 77 aces and 84 blocks.
All donations were designated to support BroncoBOLD, a student-athlete created and led committee who are passionate about mental health advocacy work and dedicated to championing a message of hope, help, and resiliency with fellow student-athletes and their community utilizing the platform of sport.
Alden, who graduated from Boise State in May with a masters degree, was particularly moved by the BroncoBOLD's High School Ambassador program, a three-year program that provides education and tools to support motivated high school students and administrators to become active leaders and advocates of mental health on their campus and in their community.
"I am extremely grateful that so many people participated in the Block Party," Alden said. "Mental health is something that is uncomfortable to talk about, especially in athletics, and I'm happy to play a role in shining a light on everything BroncoBOLD is doing to remove the stigma around it."
Her initiative earned her a spot on the AllState NACDA Good Works Team, a national award given to 20 student-athletes across the NCAA who go above and beyond in volunteer work and civic engagement. She was the only NCAA beach volleyball player represented on the spring team.
Aided in part by Alden's Block Party, BroncoBOLD was named a top three finalist for the NACDA Community Service Award. The award is given to a school that demonstrates an outstanding commitment to service, leadership and community engagement while creating a meaningful impact beyond athletics.
"We are incredibly thrilled and honored that Allyson's fundraiser was such a success," Stephanie Donaldson, an assistant athletic director of athletic counseling and mental performance and head of BroncoBOLD, said. "These generous donations will help us share our mental health resources and make a difference not only at Boise State, but the wider Idaho community as well."
Alden was inspired by similar campaigns led by Boise State student-athletes over the course of the 2025-26 year. Kage Casey (football) set up a pancake block donation fundraiser while Kenzie McMillan (soccer) created another for Story Ranch and RM Soap Market. Alden was also inspired by her teammate Lily Patock, who served on the BroncoBOLD leadership committee.
The San Marcos, Calif., native is no stranger to adversity, overcoming a series of significant leg injuries that kept her out of competition for two and a half years while competing for San Jose State. Initially believing her career to be over, Alden worked her way back to the beach game at MiraCosta College before transferring to Boise State prior to the 2024-25 campaign.
Alden concluded a successful two-year stint with the Broncos this past spring. She totaled a 43-23-4 record as a member of the Broncos, including 19 victories from the top position, tied for the fourth-most in program history. She graduated with the fifth-highest winning percentage in school history, claiming 64.3% of her duals. She was named the Southland Conference Newcomer of the Year, SLC Student-Athlete of the Year in 2025 and is a two-time College Sports Communicators Academic All-District recipient.
