Broncos Edged in Overtime

11/27/2022 2:21:00 PM | Women's Basketball

RENO, Nev. – Boise State fell to Milwaukee 55-54 in a thrilling overtime game at the Nugget Classic, Sunday.

The two teams went back and forth to start the game, but a first quarter buzzer beater from Allie Hueckman gave the Broncos (3-4) a 17-15 lead. Boise State went cold in the second quarter, scoring only three points to find itself trailing the Panthers (2-4) 29-20 at the break.

Abby Muse scored two quick baskets out of the half and Dani Bayes got the Broncos within three with a 3-pointer with 4:57 left in the third quarter. After a brief Milwaukee spurt, Muse hit a pair of free throws to tie the game at 39 with 6:20 remaining.

The Broncos found themselves trailing the Panthers 46-44 with 44 seconds left. After a missed Anna Ostlie three-point attempt, Boise State forced a turnover and called timeout with 16 seconds left. The ball found Mandy Simpson, who made a layup with 1.6 seconds remaining to send the game to overtime.

Mya Hansen and Bayes each hit a triple from beyond the arc in overtime, but the Panthers wouldn't go down, leading 55-53 with 1:03 remaining. Mya Hansen missed a pull-up jumper, but Trista Hull got fouled on the rebound attempt, sinking 1-of-2 free throws to cut the lead to one. Simpson recorded a steal on the ensuing possession to give the Broncos a chance to take the lead. After a timeout, the ball once again found Simpson, who couldn't convert on a contested jumper at the buzzer.
