BOISE, Idaho – Freshman Mya Hansen scored a career-high 31 points, but BYU defeated Boise State 76-67, Thursday, in ExtraMile Arena.

Hansen got going early for Boise State (3-5), scoring the first eight Bronco points of the game. She finished the first quarter with 10 points, but a three-point buzzer beater from Nani Falatea gave BYU (3-5) a 20-18 lead. Dani Bayes led the Broncos in the second quarter, scoring eight of her 16 points as Boise State trailed 34-32 at the break.

BYU continued to pound the ball inside in the second half, scoring 16 points in the paint in the third quarter to take a 53-47 lead. The two teams traded baskets early in the fourth, with a Hansen jumper cutting the lead to three with 8:05 remaining. However the Cougars responded with a 10-3 run to put the game out of reach.

Quotables
"Our freshmen were terrific. They know we just have to find a way to get better. They are very good players. They are fearless. It was a good night for both Mya and Dani." – head coach Gordy Presnell

"It felt good to see my shot go in, but our ultimate goal was to get a win. That's what we're all here for. Whenever I step on the court I just want to compete. If that's scoring points, passing to the hot hand, or making lockdown plays on defense, I'll do whatever is needed." – freshman Mya Hansen

Notables
- Mya Hansen recorded a career-high 31 points, becoming the first Bronco to score over 30 points since Jade Loville scored 40 points at UNLV on Feb. 10, 2021. Hansen's previous career-high was seven points.
- 49 of the Bronco's 67 points were scored by freshmen, the most in a single-game this season.
- Mandy Simpson recorded a season-high eight rebounds and tied her season-high with four assists.
- Hansen made four 3-pointers on the night. The freshman had made four 3-pointers on the season entering Thursday's game.
