Bayes, Hansen Lead Broncos Past Spartans

BOISE, Idaho – Boise State held off a late San Jose State rally to open Mountain West play with a 73-62 win, Saturday, in ExtraMile Arena.
Dani Bayes got going early for the Broncos (6-8, 1-0 MW), scoring nine points in the first quarter as the team jumped out to a 18-6 lead. The freshman continued the hot streak in the second quarter, adding seven points to grow the Boise State lead to 21. The Broncos held the Spartans (2-11, 0-2) to just 24% shooting in the first half to take a 38-20 lead into the break.
San Jose State didn't go away, exploding for 24 points in the third quarter to cut the deficit to 13. The Spartans then went on a 13-3 run to open the fourth quarter, cutting the lead to 60-57 with 4:29 remaining. After both teams traded baskets, Anna Ostlie hit a three-pointer from the left wing with 2:06 on the clock to extend the Bronco lead to six. After a Boise State stop, Mya Hansen knocked down a contested floater to make the score 67-59 with 1:29 left.
