Broncos Set Bars Season High, Fall to No. 17 Southern Utah on the Road

CEDAR CITY, Utah – Boise State set a season high on bars and took home a share of two individual titles, but ultimately fell to No. 17 Southern Utah, 196.675-196.225, Friday night on the road.
"Competing in three meets in just eight days while covering a lot of miles definitely took a toll on us," said head coach Tina Bird. "I'm confident that the fight this team has will take us far the rest of the season."
The Broncos opened up the meet with an incredible performance on bars, tying the fourth-highest score in program history with a 49.500. Leading the way was Emily Lopez and Emily Muhlenhaupt who each scored a 9.950. For Lopez the score set a new career high, and for Muhlenhaupt it was the 13th score of 9.950 or better in her career. Alexis Stokes added a solid score of 9.900, making this the second meet the trio has all scored 9.900 or better on the apparatus.
"The team started off strong with a season high on bars and a multitude of stuck landings," said head coach Tina Bird. "The Emily duo both securing 9.950 was so much fun."
Lopez and Muhlenhaupt each claimed a share of the individual title on bars, the second of Lopez's career. Muhlenhaupt's title is her 20th in her time as a Bronco, tying Lindsay Ward for the program record in career victories in the event.
In the second rotation Courtney Blackson and Lopez led the way for the Blue and Orange on vault, each with scores of 9.875, which for Lopez tied a career high. The pair earned share in the individual event title, the second in each of their respective careers. Reigning MRGC Vault Specialist of the Week Alyssa Vulaj posted a 9.850 as the Broncos tied their season high with 49.225.
Boise State headed to floor in the third rotation in which freshman Elaina McGovern led the way with a 9.875. Courtney Blackson also impressed, scoring 9.850 to help lift Boise State to a 48.925 in the rotation. Alexis Stokes and Talia Little were the standout performers for the Broncos on beam, scoring a pair of 9.850s en route to a team score of 48.525.
Up next the Broncos will head east for a quad meet hosted by Illinois. There the Broncos will face the Illini, in addition to Central Michigan and Northern Illinois. The meet is set for March 4, beginning at 6 p.m. MT.
