Broncos Use Balance Attack to Take Down Aztecs

BOISE, Idaho – Abby Muse led five Broncos in double-figure scoring with 14 points and Boise State turned back visiting San Diego State 72-63, Saturday.
Muse added 10 rebounds for her ninth double-double of the season. She also dished out a career-high seven assists.
"Abby (Muse) is starting to get better and better," Bronco Head Coach Gordy Presnell said. "Having Elodie (Lalotte) back gives us a huge presence. She's hard to guard on the block. Dominique (Leonidas) did some nice things for us. We got a big lift from Rachel (Bowers) off the bench and I thought this was the first game that really slowed down for Mary Kay (Naro)."
Lalotte returned after missing three games with a concussion and tallied 12 points and nine rebounds. Naro notched 13 points and six assists. Leonidas recorded 12 points and seven rebounds and Bowers chipped in 11 points.
The Broncos (8-14, 4-7 Mountain West) opened the game with three-straight second-chance buckets to lead 6-0 and force a timeout by the Aztecs (10-12, 4-7) at the 7:25 mark of the first quarter.
San Diego State scored the next six points before Boise State went on a 13-5 run to lead 19-11. The advantage was 19-14 at the quarter behind four points, four rebounds and four assists in the opening period from Muse.
Sophia Ramos scored the first-seven points of the second quarter for the Aztecs and they closed within 23-21 with 7:56 left in the first half. Boise State responded with a 12-0 run over the next six-plus minutes with five players scoring during the outburst.
Eight Broncos scored in the first half and Boise State held a 37-25 lead at intermission.
In the third quarter, Boise State led by as many as 15, never let San Diego State get closer than seven and was up 55-45 heading into the final 10 minutes.
The Aztecs closed within 55-49, but a pair of baskets by Lalotte sandwiched around a field goal by Muse pushed the lead back to a dozen.
The Broncos host UNLV, Wednesday, Feb. 9 at 6:30 p.m.
