THE MEET
No. 24 Boise State looks to claim its sixth conference championship in the last eight years as it hosts the Mountain Rim Gymnastics Conference Championships, Saturday (March 19). The meet is set to start at 6 p.m. MT at ExtraMile Arena.
 
LAST TIME OUT
Last time out Boise State fell in a tri-meet hosted by Arizona State. The Broncos scored 195.775 and were bested by No. 1-ranked Oklahoma and the 15th-ranked Sun Devils.
 
As has been the case all season long Boise State was led by its bars rotation. Emily Lopez, Emily Muhlenhaupt and Alexis Stokes each scored 9.900 or better for the fourth time this season, and the third time in as many meets.
 
WEEKLY AWARDS
Emily Muhlenhaupt was named a co-winner of the MRGC Bars Specialist Week award for her 9.925 on the apparatus at the Arizona State tri-meet. Muhlenhaupt has won the award a conference-leading five times this season and has earned at least a share of the honor in each of the last three weeks.
 
IN THE RANKINGS
Boise State came in at No. 24 in this week's Road to Nationals rankings with an NQS of 196.445. The Bronco bars team holds a NQS of 49.420, which is currently the highest NQS in the event in program history.
 
Three Broncos rank in the top-25 individually in bars. Emily Muhlenhaupt stands tied for fifth (9.940), while Emily Lopez ranks tied for 16th (9.920) and Alexis Stokes tied for 21st (9.915). Boise State is one of three schools to have three gymnasts rank in the top 25 for bars (Oklahoma, Florida).
 
ABOUT THE OPPONENTS
BYU enters the meet with the highest NQS of all the MRGC Programs at 196.640. The Cougars boast top-20 rotations in floor (16th), beam (18th) and bars (20th) as well as the top all-arounder in the conference in Sadie Miner- Van Tassell.
 
Utah State come into Saturday's contest ranked 25th in the nation with an NQS of 196.435. The Aggies rank as the top beam team in the conference, with an NQS of 49.295 that has them ranked 13th nationally in the event.
 
Southern Utah enters the conference championship just outside of the top 25. The Thunderbirds are led by the second-best bars rotation in the conference, sporting a 49.215 NQS.
 
RECORD SETTER
With her win on bars at the Illinois quad meet Muhlenhaupt passed Lindsay Ward (2004-08) to become the all-time leader in bars victories in program history. Her 21 wins broke Ward's record that stood for over a decade.
 
MRGC HISTORY
Boise State and BYU are the only member institutions to claim championships in the eight-year history of the MRGC. The Broncos won an unprecedented five titles in a row (2015-19) before the Cougars disrupted the streak, winning the last two (2020-21).
