Pauline Ernstberger, Joana Baptista and Nicole Discenza received All-Mountain West postseason accolades.
TUCSON, Ariz. - The Mountain West Conference announced its 2022 Women's Tennis All-Conference Team Tuesday afternoon, and among those honored were Boise State's Pauline Ernstberger, Joana Baptista and Nicole Discenza. The three were among the 23 student-athletes honored by the league's coaches.
Ernstberger received all-conference recognition for the second-consecutive year for her singles play. The sophomore from Bruchsal, Germany, went 15-9 overall in singles during the 2021-22 campaign. In team duals this spring, she routinely faced the top player from the opposition recording a 6-6 mark at the No. 1 singles slot, including 3-4 in MW play. Ernstberger recorded league wins over UNLV's Molly Helgesson, Nevada's Anastasia Luneva and San Jose State's Alba Pederor Galindo, all of whom are on the 2022 All-MW Team. Â
In doubles, Boise State's top tandem of Baptista and Discenza were one of eight teams/pairs on the all-conference team. The two recorded a 10-6 mark on the year and went 8-5 during the team dual season this spring, playing at the No. 1 position. Baptista and Discenza went 4-4 in MW action. They earned victories over UNLV's Molly Helgesson and Zita Kovacs, Nevada's Selina Turulja and Mariana Campino, Utah State's Sidnee Lavatai and Gabrielle Dekkers, as well as San Jose State's Alba Pedrero Galindo and  Lara Marco Mas. Â
This is Baptista's fourth MW postseason honor in her career, twice for singles and doubles each. The junior from Porto, Portugal, earned the singles accolades in 2020 and 2021 while receiving the doubles recognition in 2021 and 2022. Meanwhile, this is the first postseason honor for Discenza, a sophomore from Maracay, Venezuela.Â
Ernstberger, Baptista, Discenza, and their teammates are currently in Tucson, Ariz., for the 2022 Mountain West Conference Women's Tennis Championship. The Broncos open tournament action Wednesday at 11 a.m. (Mountain) against the San Jose State Spartans. Â
