Incoming Freshman Earns Spot at U.S. Women’s Amateur

HONOLULU – Boise State women's golf incoming freshman Leia Chung earned a berth to the 2022 U.S. Women's Amateur earlier this week.
Chung shot a 74 (+2) at the U.S. Women's Amateur Qualifier, Monday, finishing tied for fourth. However, following a five-hole playoff, the future Bronco garnered sole possession of fourth place and was named the first alternate for U.S. Women's Amateur.
Chung was notified Wednesday that a spot had opened up to compete in the tournament.
"I was super excited," Chung said. "When I received the email, it felt so surreal that I had been given the opportunity to compete in the U.S. Women's Amateur. I am incredibly grateful to be part of this event, and I am looking forward to it."
A native of Wahiawa, Hawaii, Chung won the Oahu Interscholastic Association (OIA) Regionals and was crowned the state champion as a freshman in 2019.
The U.S. Women's Amateur is slated for Aug. 8-14 at the Chambers Bay Golf Course in University Place, Wash.
