Broncos Fall in Four at Long Beach State

In her season debut, Paige Bartsch recorded her first career double-double to lead Boise State.
LONG BEACH, Calif. – Paige Bartsch recorded her first career double-double on 15 kills and 17 digs, but it was not enough to lead Boise State to victory as the Broncos fell in four (21-25, 25-22, 25-19, 25-18) at Long Beach State Thursday night.

Boise State opened strong rolling out to a 6-1 lead in the first set, then led the entire way to take the frame by four points 25-21. The second set was tight with 11 ties and four lead changes before Long Beach State surged at the end to claim the win to tie the match score at 1-1.

The final two sets saw Long Beach State pull away from the Blue and Orange midway through each period as the Beach rallied from a set down to beat the Broncos on the opening day of the Long Beach State Tournament.

BRONCO LEADERS
- Boise State was led by Bartsch with her first double-double on team and career-highs for both kills and digs. She added one service ace, one block solo and two block assists to finish with a team-best 18 points.
- Lauren Ohlinger added 13 kills – her second match in double-digit kills – one service ace, seven digs and one block assist for 14.5 points.
- Annie Kaminski chipped in with six kills while hitting a team-high .312 percent to go with a team-high six blocks – all assists – to end the contest with nine points.
- Ashley Hayden distributed 35 assists to lead the team.
- Allison Casillas had 14 digs followed by Dana Branavets with 10.
- Boise State's Blue Wall was a force again recording 12 team blocks to make it three-straight contests with 10 or more to open the season. The Broncos entered the match ranked second nationally for blocks per set at 3.79.
- Freshman Elle Cotton (Elk River, Minn.) saw her first action in the Blue and Orange against Long Beach State.
- Boise State will close the Long Beach State Tournament Friday night at 8 p.m. (MT) against the Notre Dame Fighting Irish (1-2).
