Broncos claim Mountain West Special Teams, Freshman Players of the Week

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Boise State claimed a pair of Mountain West weekly honors Monday as James Ferguson-Reynolds was named the league's Special Teams Player of the Week while Maddux Madsen garnered Freshman of the Week honors.

The pair of underclassmen helped lead the Broncos to a 35-27 win over San Jose State on Saturday in front of the second-largest crowd in Albertson's Stadium history. That matched the second-largest comeback victory in Boise State's FBS era.

Ferguson-Reynolds averaged an impressive 53.7 yards per punt Saturday night as the Broncos rallied for a 35-27 win over San Jose State. He boomed a 71-yard punt in the game, the longest punt of the year in the Mountain West and the second-longest in the nation this season. Ferguson-Reynolds' performance Saturday upped his season average to a national-leading 50.3 yards per punt while his net punting mark of 43.3 yards ranks 10th in the nation.

Madsen was the only freshman to throw a touchdown pass in the Mountain West last week as the rookie signal caller, sharing snaps with Taylen Green, was an impressive 9-for-16 for 155 yards. Helping to lead Boise State to a 35-27 win over San Jose State despite a 20-point deficit, Madsen averaged 9.7 yards per completion. More than just a young arm, Madsen ran for 39 yards and another score, an eight-yard designed run near the end of the first half to average 4.9 yards per carry.

The Broncos return to action this weekend with a 7:45 p.m. kickoff at Colorado State that will be televised nationally on FS1.
