Tailback named to second team, punter receives third team honors

NEW YORK – Postseason awards continued to roll in for the Broncos on Monday as running back Ashton Jeanty and punter James Ferguson-Reynolds were both named All-America by the Associated Press.

Jeanty received second team honors as an all-purpose player while the punter, Ferguson-Reynolds, was listed on the third team. This marks the first time since 2009 that Boise State has had multiple players recognized as All-America by the Associated Press when Kellen Moore (First Team) and Kyle Wilson (Second Team).

Already earning First Team All-America honors from USA Today and the College Football Network, this marks the third All-America honor for Jeanty. He totaled 1,814 yards from scrimmage and averaged 164.9 all-purpose yards per game this season, ranking second nationally in both categories. He gained 1,262 yards on the ground and added 552 receiving yards, scoring 19 total touchdowns. He is the only player in the nation with multiple rushing touchdowns of 50+ yards and multiple receiving touchdowns of 50+ yards, scoring two of each.

Ferguson-Reynolds already received All-America Second Team honors courtesy of Sports Illustrated. This season, he is one of only three punters in the country to register multiple punts of 70 yards or longer and his 25 punts that traveled 50-or-more yards ranks tied for 12th nationally. His punting caused eight touchbacks – ranking third in the country – while posting a net punting average of 43.1 yards, a number that placed him 10th in the FBS.

Boise State led all Group of 5 schools with two selections, matched only by UNLV. The Mountain West's six picks by the AP are the most of any G5 league, ahead of the Sun Belt (4) and Mid-American (2) Conferences.

The duo will lead Boise State as they play UCLA in the Starco Brands LA Bowl Hosted by Gronk on Saturday, Dec. 16. Kickoff is set for 5:30 p.m. MT/4:30 p.m. PT at SoFi Stadium in Inglewood, California. The game will air nationally on ABC.
