Set to enter fourth season in the Treasure Valley in 2024
BOISE, Idaho – Boise State head coach Spencer Danielson announced Tuesday evening that offensive line coach Tim Keane will be retained for the 2024 season.
Â
Keane has spent the past three seasons at Boise State with the Broncos offensive line improving tremendously during his tenure.
Â
"Tim Keane has done a phenomenal job coaching one of the best offensive lines in the country this year," Danielson said. "His work in molding that group into one of the best lines Boise State has seen in several years is incredibly admirable and his ability to recruit and develop nationally recognized players stands out. Keeping him in the Treasure Valley was a priority of mine and one I am elated to have accomplished."
Â
During this past season, Keane's guidance led to Kage Casey receiving Freshman All-America honors from The Athletic while also being named All-MW Second Team. Keane's unit was dominant up front, ranking 12th in the nation by allowing just 1.14 sacks per game while also paving the way for a rushing offense that averaged 214.9 yards per game, ranking sixth in the nation. Cade Beresford received All-MW First Team honors while Garrett Curran received honorable mention.
Â
In 2022, Freshman All-America honors were bestowed upon a Bronco as Mason Randolph was recognized by both the FWAA and College Football News after Keane's unit ranked 10th in the country by allowing just 1.00 sacks per game. The line also paved the way for Boise State's rushing game to rank 28th in the country by averaging 196.5 yards per game. John Ojukwu received All-MW honors for the performance while Beresford claimed second team honors.
Â
In 2021, Keane mentored two All-Mountain West honorees in John Ojukwu (first team) and Jake Stetz (second team). Ojukwu started all 12 games at left tackle for the Broncos and was only called for one penalty during the season. Stetz started at three different positions during the 2021 season (center, left guard and right guard).
Â
Keane arrived in Boise after his third stint at his alma mater, UC Davis, where he spent the four seasons (2016-19) as the Aggies' offensive line coach. UC Davis postponed its 2020 season to the spring.
Â
Over the last three seasons he was in Davis, the Aggies yielded 48 sacks in 1,615 called passing plays, one every 33.6 snaps.
Â
In 2018, UC Davis won the Big Sky, made an appearance in the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) Playoffs, and set program records for yards rushing (2,159) and touchdowns rushing (27).
Â
A pair of offensive linemen, Jake Parks (first team) and Connor Pettek (honorable mention), were HERO Sports FCS Freshman All-Americans. After the season, Keane was promoted to run game coordinator.
Â
Prior to his most recent stop in Davis, Keane was the offensive coordinator at College of Idaho as the NAIA program restarted in 2014. The Yotes racked up 4,190 total yards in their first season back and averaged 25 points per game. The following season, the numbers improved to 4,514 yards and 28.5 points per game and the Yotes were ranked in the top 30 nationally in passing efficiency, sacks allowed, third-down conversions, total offense and yards rushing.
Â
At College of Idaho, Keane coached three offensive players who were named All-Frontier Conference First Team.
Â
From 2010-12, Keane was at UC Davis where he spent one season working with the punt return unit, one season mentoring running backs and two seasons as the offensive line coach. The Aggies earned five all-conference honors and one All-America selection on offense during that time.
Â
Keane was an offensive graduate assistant at Tulane during the 2008-09 seasons and began his coaching career as offensive quality control at UC Davis in 2007.
Â
A four-year letterwinner at UC Davis from 2003-06, Keane was the starting center as a junior when the Aggies upset Stanford. He started 22-straight games over his final two seasons and became the first Aggie to win the Bob Oliver Award twice as the team's "unsung hero."
Â
Keane was a psychology major who earned his bachelor's degree in 2006. He and his wife, Carrie, have one son, Timothy, and two daughters, Abigail and Caroline.
