Broncos Outlast Saint Mary's

12/2/2023 12:02:00 AM | Men's Basketball

IDAHO FALLS, Idaho – Boise State men's basketball returned to its winning ways with a 63-60 win over Saint Mary's, Friday at the Mountain America Center.

Tyson Degenhart led the Broncos with 17 points and five assists.

O'Mar Stanley scored the first basket of the game 29 seconds in, leading to an 11-0 Boise State run. The Broncos (4-3) forced six turnovers and held the Gaels (3-5) scoreless until the 14:23 mark.

Both teams entered the second half exchanging buckets, until Saint Mary's went on an 8-2 run to cut Boise State's lead to 38-37 with 13:04 remaining.

The Broncos responded with a layup from RJ Keene, back-to-back three-pointers from Andrew Meadow and two free throws from Chibuzo Agbo to increase their lead by nine at the ten-minute mark.

Despite two layups and a pair of free throws by the Gaels in the final 25 seconds, clutch free throws by Degenhart and Max Rice led the Broncos to victory.

Quotable
  • "Not only did we have 22 points (off the bench), but boy were they timely points," said head coach Leon Rice. "I knew Saint Mary's would come in the second half with a punch and we were able to answer. Andrew (Meadow) had some great threes and they had some matchup problems when we went small and got open looks."
