Big First Quarter Sparks Broncos Past Roadrunners

BOISE, Idaho – Boise State women's basketball used a strong first quarter to cruise past Cal State Bakersfield, 87-66, Wednesday night in ExtraMile Arena.

Dani Bayes, Mya Hansen and Natalie Pasco each scored 15 points in the victory. Trista Hull added 10 points for the squad.

Hansen scored seven of the team's first 10 points as the Broncos (7-2) raced out to a 10-2 start. Boise State held the Roadrunners (2-5) scoreless for eight minutes and led 22-6 after the first period.

Cal State Bakersfield cut the deficit to 11 with 6:16 in the half, but Hull scored six-straight points for the Broncos to extend the lead back to 16. The Roadrunners managed to shoot 56.3% from the field in the second quarter, but still trailed Boise State 40-26 at the break.

The Broncos found their rhythm during the third quarter, with Pasco erupting for seven points early in the third quarter. Boise State went on a 19-8 run in the quarter to extend its lead to 25 points midway through the third quarter. Hansen added six third-quarter points as the Broncos led 66-43 entering the final frame.

The Roadrunners cut the lead to 18 with 7:34 to go, but Bayes hit a pair of 3-pointers to push the Broncos lead back to 21. Tatum Thompson and Kaitlin Burgess added to the 3-point barrage to solidify the Bronco lead.

Top Broncos

- Mya Hansen scored a season-high 15 points and grabbed a career-high seven boards in the contest. The sophomore shot 4-of-5 from the floor, was a perfect 2-of-2 from deep and netted five of her six free throw attempts.
- Natalie Pasco scored 15 points on the night on 6-of-11 shooting from the floor.
- Dani Bayes scored 15 points off the bench for the squad. The sophomore shot 5-of-10 from the floor, including 4-of-9 from 3-point range.
- Trista Hull scored 10 points on 5-of-6 shooting on the night. The junior also pulled down five rebounds.
- Abby Muse stuffed the stat sheet, recording eight points, nine rebounds, four blocks and three assists.
- Mary Kay Naro recorded eight points, five rebounds, three assists and a pair of blocks.

Notables

- Boise State has started the season 6-0 at home for the ninth time in program history.
- Mary Kay Naro moved into sole possession of fifth place in program history with 375 career assists. The senior passed Tasha Harris (2004-10), who dished out 372 career dimes.
- The Broncos scored a season-high 87 points in the contest.
- Natalie Pasco has scored in double figures and has hit multiple 3-pointers in every game this season.
- Both Dani Bayes and Mya Hansen recorded season-highs in the game, netting 15 points each. Hansen also grabbed a career-high seven rebounds.
- Bayes hit four 3-pointers in a game for the fifth time in her career.
- Boise State scored 19 fast break points, the most in a game this season.
- The Broncos turned the ball over 10 times, a season-low.
