BOISE, Idaho – The Boise State women's tennis team put a bow on the final contest of its seven-match season opening homestand with a 6-1 win over UTEP, Saturday morning at Boas Indoor Tennis Center.

Pauline Ernstberger and Shauna Heffernan got the job done on doubles court three, 6-2, while Joana Baptista and Holly Stewart battled back from a 3-0 deficit on court two to win 6-3 and clinch the doubles point for the Broncos (5-2).

Stewart got things started for Boise State in singles, cruising to a 6-3, 6-1 win on court three to push the Boise State advantage over the Miners (1-5) to 2-0. Baptista took a straight-set victory of her own on court four, which was followed by a 6-2, 6-0 victory from Heffernan on court five to clinch the match for Boise State.

Ernstberger battled back in the second set to win her court-one match, while Bhakti Shah closed things out with a straight-set win at the No. 6 position.

"We did a good job of closing out sets and matches when we got to those positions," said head coach Beck Roghaar. "That's always a good feeling and is what you want to be doing to help build up confidence in those situations. I was really proud of how they did that the way we needed them to today."
"I'm happy with how I played today," said Shauna Heffernan. "I think I was clinical and got the job done which I'm really happy about. It was the same for the team as well. A lot of the matches we were up in we were able to close out and didn't give them any room to come back."

With her win on doubles court two, Joana Baptista earned her 50th-career doubles victory.
Boise State improves to 6-2 all-time against UTEP.
Holly Stewart picked up her 25th-career No. 3 singles victory, the third most in program history.

Boise State hits the road for the first time this season, beginning with a trip out west to take on Oregon, Friday (Feb. 17) at 1 p.m. MT followed by a match against Portland State, Saturday (Feb. 18) at 11 a.m.
