SPOKANE, Wash. – Boise State women's tennis improved to 7-3 in its 2023 spring duals campaign with a 4-3 victory over Gonzaga on the road, Saturday afternoon.

A pair of 6-3 doubles wins coming on courts two and three gave the Broncos the doubles point and the early lead over the Bulldogs (4-5). Holly Stewart was victorious in her court-three singles match, defeating Jenna Sloan 6-1, 6-2 to put Boise State up 2-0.

After Gonzaga took a victory on court two to close the gap, Joana Baptista picked up a win at the No. 4 position, 7-5, 6-2, to put the Broncos in position to clinch the match. The Bulldogs claimed another win on court five, but Pauline Ernstberger battled back to win the second and third sets of her match at the No. 1 position, clinching the overall win for the Broncos.

"Just excited for our team to see what's possible for them when they play together like they did today," said head coach Beck Roghaar. "There were a lot of really tough matches and Gonzaga is a great team and really tough to play on the road. Showing up the way we did on every court despite some of the challenges we had was really awesome. For our team to see what's possible when they put it all together with that type of effort at every spot was great."
"It was a big-time clinch for Pauline at one and an awesome match where Shauna saved 12 match points to split sets and go into the third," said Roghaar. "That really allowed Pauline to play well and free down the stretch in her match, and I was excited about the team effort today."

Boise State improved to 8-0 all-time against Gonzaga.
Holly Stewart claimed her 50th-career singles victory, becoming the 32nd Bronco to reach the mark in program history.
Stewart picked up her 26th-career No. 3 singles victory, tying Bianca Jochimsen for the second-most in program history at the position.

The Broncos take a short break before traveling to Provo, Utah, to face 72nd-ranked BYU, Friday, March 10. The match is scheduled to start at 11 a.m. MT.
