Broncos Overcome Bulldogs

FRESNO, Calif. – Boise State won its third consecutive game, defeating Fresno State 66-61, Saturday, in the Save Mart Center.

After the Bulldogs (8-17, 1-11 MW) jumped out to an early 9-4 lead, Abby Muse went to work for the Broncos (12-13, 7-5 MW). The junior scored six points as Boise State ended the first quarter on a 14-2 run to take a seven-point lead into the second period. Both teams proceeded to hit a scoring drought, combining to shoot 24% in the second quarter as the Broncos led 27-20 at the break.Â

Fresno State started the second half on a 17-5 run to retake the lead midway through the quarter. Boise State responded with its own 8-0 run, snagging the lead back, but a three-point buzzer-beater from Franka Wittenberg gave the Bulldogs a 46-44 lead entering the final period.Â

Boise State took back the lead at the 7:37 mark and extended the lead to four with 3:53 to go. Fresno State tied the game at 58 a minute later, but Muse scored in the post on the ensuing possession to give the Broncos a two-point lead. Mary Kay Naro came up clutch defensively, recording a steal with 39 seconds and drawing a foul, hitting 1-of-2 free throws to extend the lead to three. Fresno State's Imani Lacy was fouled on the next possession, making 1-of-2. Boise State sealed the game from the free throw line, making 5-of-6 down the stretch to take the victory.Â
