
Broncos Sweep MW Weekly Honors

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Boise State's Kelsey Hall, Lindsey Walljasper, and Sydney Groves were named Mountain West Player, Pitcher, and Freshman of the Week, respectively, the conference announced Tuesday.
The Blue and Orange are the first team this season to sweep the conference's weekly awards.
The trio's efforts led the Broncos to a 4-0 record April 17-23, winning 5-2 against Saint Mary's and sweeping Utah State in a three-game conference series. Boise State was the first team in conference to sweep Utah State this season, with each game resulting in a five-inning mercy-rule victory.
Hall earned her third weekly honor of the season after batting .500 (3-for-6) with two doubles and five RBI. She added six walks, scored five runs, posted an on-base percentage of .833 and slugged .769.
The senior went 2-for-4 (.500) against Saint Mary's, April 17, recording a double, an RBI, and a run. Hall registered a hit, walked six times, and was hit by a pitch in nine plate appearances in the series against the Aggies.
This marks the first weekly honor for Walljasper, who went 2-0 on the week with two appearances, one start, and an ERA of 0.00 against Saint Mary's and Utah State. She improved to a 5-0 conference record with the win against the Aggies.
The Manteca, Calif.-native pitched the final five innings against the Gaels, April 17, allowing no hits and striking out a season-high of seven batters to earn the win for the Broncos. Walljasper was one-out shy of pitching a no-hitter against Utah State, April 22, striking out four batters and allowing no earned runs to clinch the conference series win for the Blue and Orange.
Groves earned her second weekly honor of the season after going .455 (5-for-11) with eight RBI and five runs. She slugged 1.091 on the week in four starts.
The Broncos were first to get on the board against Saint Mary's after Groves knocked a solo home run in the top of the second. She also broke the 2-2 tie with a two-run double in the fifth inning.
The freshman knocked a two-RBI single to seal the 9-1 win in the second game of the Utah State series, and was the first player to record a hit for the Broncos in the second inning of the third. Groves also smashed a three-run homer in the same inning.
Boise State hosts Idaho State Wednesday, April 26, at 4 p.m. at Dona Larsen Park for its final nonconference game of the season.
