LAS VEGAS – Pauline Ernstberger, Nicole Discenza and Lorelyz Marruffo each heard their name called as the Mountain West announced its 2023 women's tennis all-conference awards, Tuesday evening.
Ernstberger was named an All-Mountain West Singles player for the third-consecutive season after serving as the Broncos' No. 1 option throughout the campaign. The junior posted a 7-4 record at the top position for Boise State, including a 3-1 mark against MW opponents. Two of her three victories over MW foes came against fellow all-conference honorees Molly Helgesson (UNLV) and Zeynap Naz Ozturk (Utah State).
The doubles tandem of Nicole Discenza and Lorelyz Marruffo combined to go 8-7 while playing at the No. 1 slot in each of the Broncos' 21 matches this season. The pair of Venezuelans went 4-3 in MW play including three-straight victories to open the conference season. Boise State leaned heavily on its doubles play throughout the season as 10 of the Broncos' 11 wins came when the team won the doubles point.
This marks the first all-conference award for Marruffo – a redshirt freshman – who garnered two MW Freshman of the Week honors during the year. For Discenza, this marks her second-consecutive season being a part of an all-conference doubles team.
Boise State begins its quest for a title at the 2023 Mountain West Women's Tennis Championship tomorrow at 11 a.m. MT with an opening-round clash against 11th-seeded Utah State. Livestream coverage will be available courtesy of the Mountain West.
