PHOENIX – Boise State women's tennis student-athletes Pauline Ernstberger, Nicole Discenza and Lorelyz Marruffo all earned a spot in the ITA Mountain Regional Year-End Rankings for the 2022-23 season.
Â
Ernstberger finished the season ranked No. 3 for singles in the region, marking the program's highest singles ITA final ranking since Pichittra Thongdach finished second in 2010. Ernstberger finished the season ranked in the top-20 three seasons in a row, becoming the first Bronco to do so since the organization of the Mountain Region in 2010.
Â
The junior went 19-10 in singles' matches this season, including a win against No. 3 San Diego State that clinched a team victory in the Mountain West Quarterfinals. Ernstberger etched her name in the record book this season, moving into second place in program history with 27 career wins at the No. 3 position.
Â
Discenza and Marruffo were also recognized, posting a No. 9 ranking for doubles. This is the 13th consecutive year the Broncos have had a top-10 doubles team since 2010. The duo went 9-8 for doubles' matches this season.
Â
"It's an awesome achievement to see these players' growth and development during their time in the program," head coach Beck Roghaar said. "These rankings are a product of all their hard work that they've put in throughout the course of their careers."
Â
The ITA's rankings are calculated from win-loss record, strength of schedule and the significance of each win and loss.Â
Â
"We put a lot of players at that top level which is another great step forward for our program," Roghaar said. "Establishing ourselves as one of the elite amongst a group of over 250 student-athletes is really impressive."
