Briones Ginesta and Conde Vendrell Secure Victory at Idaho State Invite

POCATELLO, Idaho - Ariadna Briones Ginesta and Ana Conde Vendrell claimed a doubles championship title at the Idaho State Invite.

The pair dominated throughout the season-opening tournament. Competing in the A draw of the tournament, Briones Ginesta and Conde Vendrell started with a 8-7 (2) victory over Olivia Oosterban and Kelsey Phillips of Montana in the quarterfinals. The duo then cruised past the semifinals, defeating Rachel Mellor and Mariana Zurtia Berdeecio of Utah Tech 8-6, before taking down the O'lideadha twins from Idaho State, 8-6, to claim the championship title of the A Draw.

Ryan Kershner and Ella Piron had a good showing in the B Draw, starting off with an 8-5 victory over Ana Gutierrez Sampere and Olivia Bustos of Utah Tech. In the quarterfinals, the tandem beat Megan Lang Gould and Olivia Mikkelson of Idaho State, 8-5, to advance to the championship match, where they fell short to Idaho State pair Asem Shoybek and Stefanya Shalakhova, 8-6.

Piron started off strong in the black singles draw with a victory over Olivia Mikkelson of Idaho State (6-4, 6-4). The freshman then defeated Ya Chi Hsu of Utah Tech (6-0, 6-3), followed by Megan Lang Gould of Idaho State (7-6 (5), 6-2) to secure a championship spot. She was bested by Sydney Morris of Idaho State (6-2, 6-3) in the championship match.

Top Broncos

In her debut as a Bronco, Ariadna Briones Ginesta claimed her first doubles championship title.
Ana Conde Vendrell added another doubles championship title to her resume. Last season, she won the doubles B draw at the Idaho State Invite and the doubles orange flight of the Barb Chandler Classic.
Ella Piron earned two runner-up titles in her debut as a Bronco, finishing second in the black singles draw and in the doubles B draw with Ryan Kershner.

"It was good to see our younger and brand new players really step out into competition for the first time as Broncos," head coach Beck Roghaar said. "This fall is all about development. Learning where we're gonna grow forward as individuals and as a team is really good as we continue to hone in on where we can get better and what work we're going to put in before the spring season."

Notables

This marks the third-straight year in which the Broncos have taken championships in the top doubles flights of the Idaho State Invite.

The Broncos will travel to Colorado Springs, Colo., for the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Bedford Cup, Sept. 14-17.
