TYLER, Texas – Boise State running back Ashton Jeanty was named to the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award Honorable Mention list, the Tyler Chamber and SPORTyler announced.
Jeanty ran for a career-high 205 yards and two touchdowns on 23 carries, leading the Broncos to a 34-31 win over San Diego State. He became the first Bronco to eclipse 200 rushing yards since Alex Mattison ran for 200 against Fresno State in 2018. Jeanty's total of 254 all-purpose yards is the highest single-game total by a MW player this season. His first touchdown was a highlight-reel, 58-yard rumble, where he broke several tackles before breaking away from the secondary. His second score, a 6-yard run, extended the Boise State lead to 34-24, securing a 24th consecutive conference-opening win for the Broncos.
Jeanty accounted for 12 of the team's 19 first downs and caught four passes for 49 yards, gaining 59 yards after catch. He accumulated 168 of his all-purpose yards in the second quarter and compiled 137 rushing yards in the first half. The sophomore leads the nation in all-purpose yards per game, averaging 173.0. This is the second-straight week the Broncos have had a player named to the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award Honorable Mention list. Last week, wide receiver Eric McAlister was selected after a 143-yard, two-touchdown effort in a 42-18 win over North Dakota.
The Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award, announced in 2012 by the Tyler Chamber and SPORTyler, recognizes the top offensive player in Division I football who also exhibits the enduring characteristics that define Earl Campbell: integrity, performance, teamwork, sportsmanship, drive, community, and tenacity; specifically, tenacity to persist and determination to overcome adversity and injury in pursuit of reaching goals. In addition, the nominee must meet one or more of the following criteria: born in Texas and/or graduated from a Texas High School and/or played at a Texas-based junior college or four-year D1 Texas college. Jeanty is a graduate of Lone Star High School in Frisco, Texas.
