
Boise State Falls to SFA and Arizona State

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. – Boise State volleyball dropped a pair of contests Friday afternoon at the Lumberjack Classic in Flagstaff, Ariz., falling 3-2 to Stephen F. Austin, followed by a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Arizona State. The Broncos move to 2-4 overall following the losses.

The second set was tight throughout, with the teams trading three leads with seven ties. The final lead change came late when Boise State rallied from 24-22 down and fought off three set points to win it 27-25, capped by Noelani Helm's touch kill over the SFA block to clinch the set. Â

Unfortunately, the Blue and Orange struggled down the stretch as SFA dominated the final three sets, rallying to win the match 3-2.

In a 2-0 hole heading into the third set, the Broncos struggled to hit the ball in the final frame as ASU pulled away early, eventually winning the set by eight, 25-17, to clinch the match.

Boise State opened the match strong, rolling off a 6-0 run to start the first set. The Broncos led the entire way as they dominated the net with four blocks and hit .323 percent, eventually winning the frame 25-22.Â

Boise State battled hard through the first two sets against the undefeated Sun Devils but could not get a win, falling 25-20 and 26-24, respectively.Â

- On the day, Paige Bartsch combined for 32 kills, five service aces and five block assists for 40 points.
- Over the two-match stretch, Helm had 11 kills, 55 assists and 20 digs.
- Annie Kaminski had 16 kills, 10 blocks and 21.5 points.
- Defensively, Breanna Mitchell combined for 30 digs.
Notables
- Helm just missed recording the third triple-double at Boise State during the rally-scoring era with eight kills and season highs for assists and digs with 32 and 15, respectively, versus SFA.
- Bartsch recorded 19 kills against the SFA Ladyjacks, giving her five-straight matches to open the season with double-digit kills, four with 19 or more.
- In the Arizona State contest, Bartsch led the team with 13 kills, four aces, four blocks and 19.5 points…it was her sixth-straight match with double-digit kills.
- Helm's double-double against SFA was her second this season, a team-high.
-  Kaminski had a day-high seven blocks in the first match against SFA and three more versus Arizona State…she now has a team-high 24 blocks on the season.

Boise State will be back in action at 2 p.m. MDT Saturday when they face the host school, Northern Arizona, to close out the Lumberjack Classic.Â
