
Bayes Leads Broncos Past Lobos

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Dani Bayes scored a career-high 21 points and Mya Hansen added 13 to propel Boise State past New Mexico, 64-56, Saturday.
Trailing 9-3 early in the first quarter, Bayes hit a trio of 3-pointers to give the Broncos (10-6, 1-2 Mountain West) a 3-point lead. The Boise State defense held the Lobos (10-5, 1-1 MW) scoreless for the final 4:53 of the first quarter to take a 12-9 lead into the second stanza.
Linsey Lovrovich and Kaitlin Burgess continued the 3-point barrage, draining back-to-back long balls to give Boise State an 18-9 lead a minute into the second quarter. After a timeout, New Mexico responded with a pair of 3-pointers of its own, tying the game at 20 midway through the frame. Bayes added four points in the quarter, leading Boise State to a 28-25 halftime advantage.
The Lobos opened the second quarter scoring five-straight points, but Bayes and Hansen responded with two more 3-pointers to give Boise State a 34-30 lead. Hansen drilled another 3-pointer, stretching the Bronco lead to seven midway through the quarter. New Mexico cut the lead to four, but Abby Muse scored an old-fashioned 3-point play to stretch the lead back up to 47-40 heading into the final quarter.
After Muse scored to open the quarter, the Lobos responded with a 7-0 run to cut the lead to two. Hansen silenced the crowd with her third 3-pointer on the day, extending the lead to 54-49 with 6:10 left. Elodie Lalotte added back-to-back layups, and Tatum Thompson extended the lead to eight on a pull-up jumper with 3:20 remaining.
New Mexico responded with a jumper to cut the lead to six, but Lalotte scored again, stretching the lead to 62-54 with 2:29Â on the clock. Hansen finished a left-handed layup on the next possession to extend the Bronco lead to 10, solidifying the Boise State victory.
