Broncos Rally Past UNLV in Four

10/26/2024 5:27:00 PM | Women's Volleyball

LAS VEGAS – After dropping the opening set by six points, the Boise State volleyball team rallied, claiming three straight set victories to beat the UNLV Rebels in four Saturday afternoon in Las Vegas.

The win improved the Broncos to 14-7 overall and 6-4 in Mountain West play, while UNLV moved to 10-11 and 3-7, respectively.

Boise State opened the match on a 6-1 run in the first set but could not hold on down the stretch as UNLV rallied for the win. The Rebels used a series of small runs to catch the Broncos and then take the lead, as Boise State went cold offensively late.

Like the first set, the Broncos opened with a run, taking a 6-1 advantage. However, this time, the Blue and Orange did not let UNLV back into the set, leading the entire way and eventually taking it 25-20.

Set three was back-and-forth, featuring 14 ties and eight lead changes. With the score tied at 19, Boise State closed on a 6-2 run, winning the set 25-21.

Tied at 4-4 in the fourth, Boise State used a 5-0 run to take control up 9-4. The Blue and Orange maintained a lead the rest of the way but was forced to hold off several UNLV rally attempts before winning the set 25-20 to clinch the match in four, 3-1.

  • Paige Bartsch's 22 points mark her fifth match this season – all during MW play – with 20-plus kills and the 25th of her career. It also moved her into sole possession of third for career matches with double-digit kills at 76 during the RSE.
  • Etter's double-double was her eighth of the year.

  • This was the Blue and Orange's first win of the season after dropping the first set and only their second in the last two years, 2-15 combined.

QUOTABLES

Shawn Garus, head coach
  • "Great TEAM win today. We were a little short-handed, but Bridey and Kendall came off the bench and gave us a spark today. Credit to those two and others that work hard every day in practice to get better and be ready when the opportunity comes."
