
Boise State Comes Up Short at Utah State in Four Sets

LOGAN, Utah – Boise State volleyball battled hard but came up on the short end of the score, falling 3-1 (25-21, 23-25, 25-18, 25-22) at Utah State on Thursday night in Logan, Utah.
Utah State opened the first set with a 3-0 run and never trailed. Boise State battled back from a five-point deficit to get back into the period but could not catch the Aggies, falling 25-21.
Tied at 4-4 in the second, Boise State surged to take a 7-5 lead. The Broncos never trailed after that and led 23-16 when USU rallied, closing to within 23-21. The Blue and Orange regrouped to hold off the Aggies for a 25-23 win, clinched by a Kiersten Van Kirk crosscourt slam.
The third was tight until the end. Boise State used a 5-0 run to go from 9-13 down to 14-13 up. Then, down one to USU at 18-17, the Broncos went cold as the Aggies closed the set out on a 7-1 run.
In a close fourth set, Boise State fell behind early and played from behind most of the way. The Broncos trailed by as many as four points midway, then rallied to close within one. Unfortunately, Boise State could not catch Utah State, which held on for a three-point 25-22 set win to clinch the match 3-1.

- Paige Bartsch led with a team-high 16 kills to go with two service aces, four digs, three blocks and 20 points.
- Kiersten Van Kirk added 10 kills and four blocks for 12.5 points.
- Kendall Hastings hit a career-best .333 percent with eight kills, a team-high seven blocks and 11.5 points, all career highs.
- Kiki Remensperger had a double-double on team highs for assists with 21 and digs with 13; she also had a team and career-high three service aces.
