BOISE, Idaho – While No. 12/12/13 Boise State is riding its longest single-season winning streak in 10 years, the Broncos have an opportunity to lock in a spot in the Mountain West Championship Game on Saturday as they will face Wyoming at Jonah Field at War Memorial Stadium with a 5 p.m. game on CBS Sports Network.
Â
The conference matchup will air nationally as Rich Waltz (play-by-play) and Robert Turbin (analyst) call the action on CBS Sports Network while Bob Behler (play-by-play) and Pete Cavender (analyst) will have the call on the Bronco Radio Network and on SiriusXM Ch. 83.
Â
OPENING KICKOFF
- Boise State enters its final conference game of the season with an eight-game winning streak -- its longest single-season winning streak since 2014 -- as the #12 Broncos will play at Wyoming on Saturday, Nov. 23 at 5 p.m. MT. The Broncos have an opportunity to clinch a spot in the 2024 Old Trapper Mountain West Championship Game with a win OR UNLV loss on Friday. The game can be watched on CBS Sports Network and heard on the Bronco Radio Network.
- No. 2 Ashton Jeanty continues his #HEI2MAN campaign this week as he leads the nation in several categories. The junior is pacing the country in rushing yards (1,893), rushing touchdowns (26), total touchdowns (27) and all-purpose yards (1,991). Find out more about Ashton Jeanty's record-setting season at HEI2MAN.com.
- Boise State is nationally ranked for the ninth week in a row and appeared in each of the first three College Football Playoff Rankings this season, including at #12 this week. The Broncos have a .851 winning percentage (120-21) all-time when ranked by the Associated Press. That is the best winning percentage of any team when ranked by the AP.
- Boise State and Wyoming represent two of the best on third downs on both sides of the ball, which means on Saturday one side will have to give. The Broncos' offense is third in the nation in third down conversion percentage (52.7%; 68-129) while Wyoming's defense is fifth in the country in third down conversion percentage against (.285; 35-123).
- Boise State can leave the weekend with a spot in the 2024 Mountain West Championship game secured -- as well as the host of the game. If Boise State wins on Saturday, it will clinch a spot in the game. It can also clinch a spot with a loss by UNLV on Friday night. The Broncos can clinch the right to host with a win AND a Colorado State loss.
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
WHAT'S THE RUSH
Boise State, which owns the third-best rushing offense in the country (258.7 ypg), has run for 200+ yards in eight games this season. It marks the third straight season in which the Broncos have at least seven 200-yard rushing games in a single season. The last time Boise State had more than eight 200-yard rushing games in a season was 2014, when it had nine. New Mexico (7) is the only other Mountain West team this season with five or more games of 200 rushing yards.
Â
ESTABLISHING THE RUN GAME
The current average of 258.7 rushing yards per game is the highest average in the program's FBS era (since 1996), with the next-closest being 229.8 yards per game, achieved in 2004. The Broncos rank second in the FBS in yards per carry, averaging 6.47. This year, the Broncos have 11 individual 100-yard rushing performances, tied for the single-season program record, originally set in 2014. Per Stats Perform, Boise State has outrushed its opponent in nine games, with Tennessee (10) being the only FBS team to do so more.
Â
Â
IN TOTALITY
While the Boise State offense has been churning in the run game, it also ranks among the best in total offense as the Broncos are fourth in the nation with 492.2 yards per game. Boise State has four games of 500+ total yards this season, which already equals its total from the last two seasons combined and are its most in a season since 2013 (4). The program's FBS record for most 500-yard games of total offense during a season is six set in 1996.
Â
OFFENSIVE ONSLAUGHT
Boise State is averaging 43.6 points per game, the most since 2011, when the Broncos averaged 44.2. At the current rate, Boise State will finish the regular season with 523 points, the team's highest regular season total since 2010, when the Broncos finished with 560 points.
Â
GETTING OFFENSIVE
In addition to being fourth in the country in total offense, Boise State is fourth in the country in yards per play (7.09) and sixth in total yards (4,922). The Broncos are one of only eight FBS teams with 4,850 or more total yards entering Week 13. Of the eight FBS teams with 4,850+ yards, four have played 11 games. Boise State has played 10.
Â
UNDER PRESSURE
Boise State's pass rushers have been incredibly effective in reaching the quarterback this season. According to Pro Football Focus Ultimate, the Broncos have 196 total pressures, which combines sacks, hits and hurries. This is tied for 13th in the FBS. There are 15 Broncos with multiple pressures and 21 Broncos with at least one. Ahmed Hassanein has a team-high 45, tied for eighth in the country.
Â
BRONCOS IN THE BACKFIELD
Boise State continues to wreak havoc in opponents' backfields, ranking second in the nation with 41 sacks. The 41 total sacks are the most since 2014, when the Broncos had 47 sacks. The 1996 and 2010 squads each had 49 sacks, the program record for the FBS era, which began in 1996. Leading the attack for the Broncos are Jayden Virgin-Morgan (9.0) and Ahmed Hassanein (7.5). They are one of three duos in the FBS with at least 7.5 sacks each, joined by Suntarine Perkins (10.0) and Princely Umanmielen (9.5) from Ole Miss and Eric O'Neill (8.0) and Khairi Manns (8.0) from James Madison. The Broncos also have 80 tackles for loss, tied for sixth in the country.
Â
CONTROLLING THE CLOCK
The Broncos have mastered controlling the clock in the fourth quarter as of late. They have totaled possession in the fourth quarter for 87:12 in the first 10 games, or 58% of the possible time. Since the win at UNLV, in which the Broncos ended the game with a 14-play, 8:07 drive, Boise State has held the ball for 66.6% of the possible time in the fourth quarter.
Â
Boise State's Fourth Quarter Possession in 2024
 | Possession Time | Pct. of Possible Possession Time |
This Season | 87:12 | 58.1% |
Conference Play | 57:12 | 63.6% |
Since UNLV (Oct. 25) | 39:56 | 66.6% |
DOWN, NOT OUT
Boise State has not trailed much this season, but it faced a 14-0 deficit after the first 24+ minutes of the game on Saturday at San Jose State. The Broncos came back, however, and secured their largest deficit overcome since Oct. 7, 2023 vs. San Jose State (trailed 27-7, won 35-27). The Broncos have trailed in three of their nine wins this year, and have only spent a combined 65:57 of game time trailing in games (11% of game time).
Â
LONG DRIVES
Boise State has turned in a 90+ yard touchdown drive in three straight games, which is its longest such streak since 2016 when it did so in four-straight games (Oct. 7 at New Mexico, Oct. 15 at Colorado State, Oct. 20 vs. BYU, Oct. 29 at Wyoming). The Broncos' streak of three consecutive games with a 90+ yard touchdown drive is the longest active streak in the country.
Â
LAUTER CONTINUES TO PRODUCE
Matt Lauter had two receptions for 23 yards and one touchdown against San Jose State, his sixth touchdown reception of the season. This ties Dave Stachelski (1999) for second-most touchdowns by a tight end in single-season program history.
Â
TURNOVER SHOP
Boise State recorded four takeaways last week at San Jose State, which were the most turnovers forced by the Broncos since Nov. 18, 2023 against Utah State and the most in a road game since Sept. 25, 2015 at Virginia (5). Over the last four games, the Broncos have forced nine turnovers – after in the first six games of the year when they forced five turnovers. In the month of November, Boise State has forced eight turnovers, which are tied with Marshall for the most in the FBS entering this week.
Â
RECOVERY ZONE
Boise State has recovered two fumbles in each of the last two games, helping them total two or more fumble recoveries in three different games this year (other: at Oregon, Sept. 7; 2). Boise State is one of 10 teams this season with three or more games with two or more fumble recoveries: Colorado (4), Memphis (4), Alabama (3), Boise State (3), Duke (3), Eastern Michigan (3), Notre Dame (3), Ole Miss (3), South Florida (3), and Tulane (3). The Broncos are first in the Mountain West and 15th in the country in fumbles recovered this season (8).
Â
SEYI SETS THE STANDARD
Seyi Oladipo is one of Boise State's top pass-rushers, totaling 5.5 sacks this season, the most among FBS defensive backs. The safety is tied for fifth on the team with 45 total tackles (32 solo).
Â
HEI2MAN-WORTHY NUMBERS
Ashton Jeanty (27) has scored more total touchdowns this season than the total scored by 27 FBS teams, including Arizona (26), Kentucky (25), Utah (25), Purdue (21) and Michigan State (20). Jeanty's 162 points are more than the total of Southern Miss (149), Kent State (143), Houston (140) and Florida State (133). He has scored 26 rushing touchdowns this season, equaling or besting the season total of 122 FBS teams, including the top four teams in the AP Poll. Of the 12 teams with more than 26 rushing touchdowns, three have played more than 10 games. He has recorded two games this season with at least 250 rushing yards and 4+ rushing touchdowns this year. Meanwhile, no other FBS player has recorded a single such game this season. Jeanty has rushed for 100+ yards in 13 of the 18 halves he's played this season.
Â
LOADING THE BOX
Through 10 games, the most effective way to stop Ashton Jeanty has been to load the box. Against 9+ man boxes, Jeanty averages 2.4 yards per carry, per PFF. He has 40 attempts against 9+ box defenders, the most in the country among non-service academy players. In the last six weeks, he has 64 carries against 8+ man boxes, the most of any FBS running back in that span. He has been most effective against the standard 7-man box, running for 982 yards, 382 more than the next-closest player (Kaleb Johnson, Iowa). Jeanty has 1,515 yards when facing 7+ box defenders. No other FBS running back has more than 1,000.
Â
Box Defenders | Att | Yards | Jeanty Yards/Att | Rest of FBS Yards/Att |
6 | 58 | 390 | 6.7 | 5.8 |
7 | 102 | 982 | 9.6 | 5.4 |
8 | 62 | 439 | 7.1 | 4.5 |

BUCKING BRONCO, PART I
How impressive has Ashton Jeanty been this season? Of his 1,893 rushing yards, 1,370 have come after contact. This is the most in a single-season during the College Football Playoff era (since 2014), when Pro Football Focus began tracking the stat. Only North Carolina's Omarion Hampton has more total rushing yards (1,422) and total rushing yards per game (142.2). With his 13 forced missed tackles against San Jose State, Jeanty continued to prove himself as one of the toughest backs to tackle in recent history. His season total of 105 missed tackles forced on rushes is the most in the CFP era (since 2014), when PFF began tracking the stat. His season total of 112 is tied with Bijan Robinson (Texas, 2022) for the most in a single-season. There have been 10 instances of a player forcing 100+ missed tackles in a season, with Jeanty being the only player to do it twice. In 2023, he forced 106 missed tackles in 12 games.
Â
SECOND TO NONE
With his 36-yard touchdown run against San Jose State, Jeanty broke Jay Ajayi's single-season school record of 1,823 rushing yards. Jeanty also tied Ajayi's program record for most 100-yard rushing efforts in a season (10). This was his sixth three-touchdown game of the season, tying Brock Forsey (2002) the most in Boise State history. This number also ties for third in FBS single-season history (since 1996.)
Â
200 RUSHING YARDS, 3 TOUCHDOWNS
Jeanty ran for 209 yards and three touchdowns against Nevada, marking his third 200-yard/three-touchdown effort of the season. This is tied for the third-most in an FBS season since 1996, matching Kapri Bibbs (Colorado State, 2013) for the MW record. Wisconsin products Jonathan Taylor (2018) and Ron Dayne (1996) hold the current record of four.
Â
ECLIPSING THE CENTURY MARK
For the 10th game in a row, Ashton Jeanty ran for at least 100 yards, grinding out 159 yards on 32 carries at San Jose State. The 10-consecutive 100-yard rushing games is the most in Mountain West history, with Jeanty passing San Diego State's Donnel Pumphrey (2016). Jeanty has not only eclipsed 100 yards in every game, he's totaled over 125 rushing yards. He is the first FBS player to run for over 125 yards in his first 10 games since 1996, when Iowa State's Troy Davis eclipsed that mark in 11 games.
Â
ALL OVER THE FIELD
Ty Benefield played a team-high 85 snaps against San Jose State, playing all 73 defensive snaps plus 12 more on special teams. He had an interception in the second quarter, returning it 13 yards to set up Boise State's game-tying score at the end of the first half. In the third quarter, the sophomore forced a fumble on San Jose State's fourth down attempt, which was recovered by Jayden Virgin-Morgan to set up the Broncos' go-ahead touchdown drive. Benefield is the first Bronco to force a fumble and intercept a pass since Ezekiel Noa did it against Fresno State on Oct. 8, 2022. Benefield is one of seven FBS players with multiple interceptions and multiple fumble recoveries.
Â
WHEN OPPORTUNITY KNOCKS
Boise State has scored 63 points off the 14 takeaways this season, including 35 points off turnovers in the last three games. The Broncos have scored double-digits off turnovers in two of the last three games – after only scoring 10+ points off turnovers in the first seven games of the season. While Boise State has compiled 63 points off turnovers this year, it has held its opponents to only 16 points off seven turnovers. Last season, Boise State scored 48 points off turnovers.
Â
TAKING IT TO THE HOUSE
Davon Banks had a 70-yard interception return for a touchdown to secure the 42-21 win over San Jose State on Saturday. This was his first interception as a Bronco and it marked Boise State's second pick-six of the season. A'Marion McCoy has the other, returning an interception 35 yards for a score against San Diego State. The last time Boise State had multiple pick-sixes in a season was 2015, when Mercy Maston (25 yards) and Justin Taimatuia (21 yards) each had one against Virginia on Sept. 25. The Broncos are one of 24 FBS teams with multiple interception returns for touchdowns this season.
Â
BRONCOS SLOTTED AT NO. 12 IN CFP RANKINGS
Boise State remained in the College Football Playoff rankings, rising to No. 12 in the third edition of 2024. The Broncos were once again the highest-ranked Group of 5 team, and as the fourth-highest ranked conference leader, were placed as the No. 4 seed in the projected bracket. Boise State was also ranked 12th in the AP Poll and 13th in the Coaches Poll.
Â
ANCHORING THE TRENCHES
Kage Casey is one of the nation's top offensive linemen, earning a PFF overall grade of 84.2 that ranks second among left tackles who have played over 600 snaps. The redshirt sophomore has not allowed a sack all season and is tied for the team lead with 657 offensive snaps.
Â
NEXT MAN UPÂ
The Boise State offensive line has been dominant this season, paving the way for a unit that ranks in the nation's top 10 in various categories, including rushing offense and sacks allowed. The Broncos have done this despite having six different combinations of starters. Ten players have started at least one game for the Blue and Orange.
Â
DISTRIBUTION CENTER
Ten different Boise State players caught a pass against San Jose State, marking the fourth time this season that 10 or more Broncos had at least one reception in a game this season. Boise State saw 10 players with a reception against Utah State on Oct. 5 (W, 62-30), 11 vs. Portland State on Sept. 21 (W, 56-14) and 10 against San Diego State (W, 56-24). Seventeen different Broncos have at least one catch this year while seven have 10 or more catches. Last year, 15 Broncos had at least one catch and seven had 10 or more receptions.
Â
WE DON'T KNOW HOW TO SHARE
Boise State enters this week's game with just seven total turnovers committed this season, the eighth-fewest in the nation. Army West Point (3), Clemson (6), Georgia Tech (6), James Madison (6), Louisiana (6), UNLV (6) and Vanderbilt (6) are the only teams ahead of the Broncos.
Â
ANALYZING THE ATTACK
The Bronco rushing attack is arguably the best in the country and the Pro Football Focus analytics back it up. Boise State has a 95.8 PFF rushing grade, ranking second in the nation. The Broncos lead the country in yards after contact (1,871), yards after contact per rush (4.7), missed tackles forced (146), missed tackles forced per rush (0.36), 30+ yard runs (17), 40+ yard runs (12), 50+ yard runs (10), 60+ yard runs (8) and 70+ yard runs (4).
Â
SUCCESS IN THE MOUNTAIN WEST
Now in its 14th season in the Mountain West, Boise State has lost just 17 games in conference play, and only five of those losses have come by more than seven points.
Â
PROTECT THE QUARTERBACK
Thanks to a dominant offensive line, Boise State opponents have found it difficult to reach quarterback Maddux Madsen. Entering this week's game, Boise State ranks sixth in the nation in sacks allowed (0.90) and 11th nationally in tackles for loss allowed (3.80). The Broncos only yielded one sack and just four tackles for loss to No. 1/1 Oregon, who was ranked No. 7/6 at the time.
Â
BIG WINS
Six of Boise State's nine wins have come by 20+ points, with only No. 1 Oregon and No. 2 Ohio State recording more (seven each). The Broncos have three wins by over 30 points. Boise State averages 18.9 more points per game than its opponents, the 12th-best scoring margin in the FBS.
Â
A WIN WOULD…
- Clinch a spot in the 2024 Old Trapper Mountain West Football Championship for Boise State, its third straight MW championship game appearance.
- Along with a Colorado State loss, clinch the right to host the MW championship game in Boise.
- Register Boise State's 121st win while playing as a ranked team in the AP Top 25 poll.
- Secure an undefeated conference record, which would be Boise State's fourth in the last six seasons.
- Register Boise State's 90th all-time win in MW play and 107th against a Mountain West opponent.
