The Broncos and Colorado State are the only MW teams with undefeated conference records so far this season.
- No. 2 Ashton Jeanty continues his #HEI2MAN campaign this week as he continues to lead the nation in several categories. The junior is pacing the country in rushing yards (1,525), rushing touchdowns (20), total touchdowns (21) and all-purpose yards (1,606). Find out more about Ashton Jeanty's record-setting season at HEI2MAN.com.
- Boise State enters this game ranked No. 12 in the College Football Playoff Poll, No. 12 in the AP Top 25 poll and No. 14 in the US LBM Coaches Poll. The Broncos have a .849 winning percentage (118-21) all-time when ranked by the Associated Press. That is the best winning percentage of any team when ranked by the AP.
- Boise State features the nation's 4th-ranked offense as it is averaging 509.1 yards per game. The Broncos are also averaging 45.8 points per contest, which is third-best in the country. They have scored 45 or more points in all four home games this season, including 56 last week against San Diego State.
- The Broncos are 5th in the country in third-down offense (51.4%) and 2nd in fourth-down offense (84.6%) as they are a combined 66-for-120 on critical downs this season (55.0%). Boise State was 11-of-15 on third- and fourth-downs last week, including 2-of-2 on fourth down. The Broncos have converted 11 straight fourth-down attempts, a stretch that dates back to Sept. 28 vs. Washington State.
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
- Broncos Tabbed No. 12 in CFP Rankings
Boise State made program history by earning the No. 12 ranking in Tuesday's College Football Playoff rankings, the first of 2024. This is the highest in program history, besting the previous mark of No. 19, which most recently occurred in the final poll of 2019. That also marked the last time the Broncos were included in the CFP rankings. Boise State was the highest-ranked Group of 5 team in this week's edition.
- What's the Rush?
Boise State, which owns the fourth-best rushing offense in the country (267.9 ypg), has run for 200+ yards in seven games this season. It marks the third straight season in which the Broncos have seven 200-yard rushing games in a single season. The last time Boise State had eight or more 200-yard rushing games in a season was 2014, when it had nine. New Mexico (5) is the only other Mountain West team this season with five or more games of 200 rushing yards. The Broncos have rushed for at least 175 yards in 17 consecutive games, the longest active streak in the nation. The next-closest FBS program is Army West Point (13).
- Protecting the Blue
Boise State has started 4-0 at home this season, its best home start since 2022 (4-0). The last time the Broncos started a home slate with a 5-0 record was 2019 (7-0). Since 2019, the Broncos are 19-2 at home in conference games and have won 12 straight conference home games.
- The Greatest Show on Blue Turf
The Boise State offense is a major contributor to the team's 4-0 start at home. The Broncos are averaging an FBS-high 54.8 points per home game. They are converting on a nation-best 61.7 percent of third downs and one of five FBS teams that are perfect on fourth downs. The unit is averaging 552.3 yards per game and 8.0 yards per play on The Blue, ranking third-nationally in both categories. Boise State is fifth in the nation with 283.3 rushing yards per home contest.
- In Totality
While the Boise State offense has been churning in the run game, it also ranks among the best in total offense as the Broncos are fourth in the nation with 509.1 yards per game. Boise State has four games of 500+ total yards this season, which already equals its total from the last two seasons combined and are its most in a season since 2013 (4). The program's FBS record for most 500-yard games of total offense during a season is six set in 1996.
- Getting Offensive
In addition to being fourth in the country in total offense, Boise State is third in the country in yards per play (7.33) and 10th in total yards (4,073). The Broncos are one of only 14 FBS teams with 4,000 or more total yards entering Week 11. Of the 14 FBS teams with 4,000+ yards, Boise State and North Texas (4,221 total yards) are the only two teams who have played eight games. The other 12 teams have played nine games. Also, of the top-25 teams in the country in total yards, the Broncos have run the fewest plays (556). The next closest team in terms of offensive plays and at least 3,800 total yards is Kansas State (584).
- This is Becoming a Habit
With the most recent rankings release by the Associated Press putting the Broncos at No. 12, this marks the seventh consecutive week Boise State is in the AP's Top 25 poll. You won't have to look back far to see the last time Boise State achieved such a feat - it last happened in 2019. The 2024 season marks the ninth time the Broncos have been in the AP Top 25 poll for six consecutive weeks or more. Since 2000, Boise State has been ranked for at minimum nine consecutive weeks on eight separate occasions: 2004, 2006, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2016 and 2019.
- Going for It – Part I
Boise State was 0-for-2 on fourth down attempts in the first three games of the season, but since converting the lone fourth down in the win against Washington State on Sept. 28, the Broncos have converted 11 straight fourth downs. Last week against San Diego State, Boise was 2-for-2 on fourth down attempts. It was the third straight game in which Boise State converted multiple fourth down attempts. Boise State, which is 11-for-13 on fourth downs this season, has its most fourth down conversions in a season since 2018 (13-for-22).
- Going for It – Part II
The Broncos are tied for second in the nation in fourth down conversion rate this season (84.6%) while they are tied for 19th in the country in successful fourth down tries (11). The Broncos have scored in eight of their 11 drives with a fourth-down conversion (7 TDs, 1 FGs), with two drives that did not feature a score being drives that ended in kneel-downs to end their respective games (Oct. 25 at UNLV, Oct. 5 vs. Utah State). The other was a drive that resulted in a punt in the third quarter at Hawai'i on Oct. 12.
- Continuing the Climb
Boise State continued its climb of the national polls, checking in at No. 12 in the Associated Press Top 25 and No. 14 in the US LBM Coaches Poll. This is the highest the Broncos have been ranked by the AP since the final poll of the 2011 season, which saw them ranked No. 8. This is also the highest Boise State has been ranked in the Coaches Poll since Oct. 13, 2019, when it checked in at No. 13.
- Living on the Edge
This Bronco squad knows how to live life on the edge. Boise State enters this week's game with the third-best conversion percentage of combined 3rd and 4th downs, successfully converting 66 of 120 attempts (55.0%). Only Miami (Fla.) and Army West Point rank higher.
- Sack Attack
The Broncos rank first in the nation in sacks per game as they are averaging 4.75 sacks per game, helping them total 38.0. The 38.0 sacks are two more than Boise State had all of last season and most in a campaign since 2019 (40.0). Boise State has totaled 40+ sacks in three different seasons in the last 25 years (since 2000): 2019 (40.0), 2014 (47.0), and 2010 (49.0). Leading the attack for the Broncos are Jayden Virgin-Morgan (8.0) and Ahmed Hassanein (7.5). They are the one of two duos in the FBS with more than seven sacks each, joined by Suntarine Perkins (8.0) and Princely Umanmielen (7.5) from Ole Miss.
- Running It Up
After being held under 30 points in back-to-back games for the first time all season, Boise State scored 56 points last week against San Diego State, the most ever by the Broncos in a game against the Aztecs. Boise State has scored 45+ points in five games this season, which are its most in a season since 2018 (5). The last time Boise State scored 45+ points in six or more games in a season was 2011 (6).
- Moving the Chains
Boise State's offense was firing on all cylinders Friday, collecting 34 first downs. This ties the seventh-most in a single game in the Broncos' FBS era, which began in 1996. Twelve different Broncos recorded a first down, led by Ashton Jeanty (9) and Latrell Caples (6). The Broncos tallied 18 passing and 16 rushing while benefiting from two penalties.
- Trell for 6 (x3)
In Friday's 56-24 rout of San Diego State, Latrell Caples caught three touchdown passes in the first half. He is the first Bronco to accomplish this feat since Cedrick Wilson did so on Oct. 7, 2016 against New Mexico. He is the first player to record three receiving touchdowns in a Mountain West contest this season. Caples matched his career-high with six receptions and set a career-high with 90 yards. All six of his receptions were for a first down or touchdown. For his efforts, he was named to the Earl Campbell Tyler Rose National Player of the Week Honorable Mention list for the first time in his career.
- Lockdown Corner
A'Marion McCoy was lockdown last weekend, registering a 35-yard interception return for a touchdown, Boise State's first pick-six since Seyi Oladipo had a 48-yard return against Utah State in 2022. McCoy logged a Pro Football Focus grade of 91.4, the highest among any cornerback that played 15 or more coverage snaps in Week 10. In five targets, he allowed one reception. The senior has four career interceptions in his time with the Broncos.
A WIN WOULD…
- Register Boise State's 119th win while playing as a ranked team in the AP Top 25 poll.
- Allow Boise State to have a 8-1 start to the season, the best since 2019.
- Improve Boise State to 5-0 to start MW play, which would be the second time in the last 3 seasons that has happened.
- Register Boise State's 88th all-time win in MW play and 105th against a Mountain West opponent.
- Move Spencer Danielson's record to 11-2 as a head coach.
