
Broncos Finish Fourth in Mountain Classic Match Play

PALM SPRINGS, Calif. – The Boise State women's golf team finished fourth in Mountain Classic Match Play, opening the spring season with a win over Portland State before falling to St. Thomas and Wyoming. Teal Matsueda had a pair of wins for the Broncos, as did Annie Buffolino and Hannah Lim, who competed in the individual bracket.
FIRST ROUND vs. PORTLAND STATE (Boise State, 3-0-2)
The Broncos beat Portland State in the first round, 3-0-2. Leia Chung, Macee Greenwood and Matsueda each captured a 4 & 2 victory. All three clinched their wins on the 16th hole after leading for the entire match. On the individual side, Annie Buffolino rallied from a deficit of four to win, 4 & 2. Jillian Hui (1 up) also secured a win in the individual bracket.
SEMIFINAL vs. ST. THOMAS (ST. THOMAS, 3-1-1)
Boise State dropped its semifinal match to St. Thomas, 3-1-1, with Elli Gordon picking up the Broncos' lone win. Gordon led her entire match against Courtney Wedin, tallying a 2 & 1 victory. Chung tied her match with Kathryn VanArragon while Hui and Lim won their individual matches.
CONSOLATION FINAL vs. WYOMING (WYOMING, 3-1-1)
The Broncos were defeated by Wyoming, 3-1-1, in a competitive final match. Matsueda earned her second win of the week, topping Morgan Ryan, 4 & 2. Chung, Greenwood and Polla all battled through 18 holes, with Polla's match against Sophie Spiva finishing in a tie. In individual competition, Buffolino (4 & 3) and Lim (2 up) tallied their second victories of the week.
WHAT'S NEXT
The Broncos will remain in Palm Springs, competing in a tri-match against Long Beach State and UC Riverside. The teams will play at Monterey Country Club on Feb. 15-16.
